Welcomed Decision on Capitol Cinema Planning Application

Proposed Capitol development (St. Patrick’s Street view).

Cork Chamber welcomes the positive announcement that JCD’s planning application to redevelop the former Capitol Cinema Site has been granted in full and acknowledges the major economic benefits this will mean for the City.

Speaking after the announcement Conor Healy, Cork Chamber CEO said “Cork is a progressive region and the granting of this planning permission heralds a bright new future for the city. This development, which builds on the natural strengths and history of the location gives Cork a competitive edge which will encourage further innovative developments and investments. Creating a vibrant city centre is key to attracting and retaining business and gives locals and visitors more reasons to enjoy and spend time in our energetic city.”

Detailed design of The Capitol building is currently ongoing and construction works will begin shortly. The benefits of this project will be felt immediately in Cork with the creation of 200 construction jobs and when completed the new site will create up to 450 new jobs. It is expected The Capitol will be open for business at the beginning of 2017.
