Economic Survey Reminder

Our quarterly economic trends survey is essential to our work in representing members on key business issues. The results will assist the Chamber in building its lobbying and representation activities and presenting Cork’s business case to Government. Cork City Centre Movement Strategy Submission

The Chamber has recently prepared a submission for the “Cork City Centre Movement Strategy (CCMS)” Plan.  This plan will design and develop a strategy for the efficient and effective movement of all transport modes in the City Centre.  The Chamber fully supports improved access to the city centre which will facilitate the ease of doing business and encourage economic development.  The Chamber recommended the importance of a modern and integrated public transport system, a number of innovative ways to increase mobility and ease parking issues and the development of new and enhanced cycle paths.  The Chamber highlighted continued support for the Smarter Travel Initiative and the Docklands.  Further information can be found on our website.

Professional Project Management is designed to establish a detailed understanding of Project Management terms, concepts and methodologies. In simulating real-life environments, trainees gather the detailed knowledge required to apply the training on return to their work environment.

Save the date - Female Entrepreneurship event!

On Wednesday 24 October Paula Fitzsimons will be speaking at an event organised as part of the Chamber's Female Mentoring project.  Paula will be addressing the issues around whether Irish women have untapped entrepreneurial potential, referencing the findings of the recent Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2011 report, and highlighting the supports available for female entrepreneurs through programmes such as Going for Growth. Bill Griffin’s ‘Betrayal’ in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research


 
Breakthrough Cancer Research is delighted to launch - ‘Betrayal’- A performance by Cork Artist  Bill Griffin, which will take place at The Temperance Hall on Emmet Street, Kinsale at 8pm Saturday 29th September. 


An exhibition of Griffin's Art will also run in tandem with his performance, at The Gallery Kinsale from Thursday, 27 th September – Wednesday 3 October.

 
Tickets for ‘Betrayal’, which is a captivating solo piece scripted and performed by artist Bill Griffin based on the last three years of Vincent Van Gogh's life, are available through The Gallery Kinsale or at the door on the night for €10 in support of Breakthrough Cancer Research, a national charity, which fundraises for research into new treatments for cancers that respond poorly to conventional therapy.

Run or Walk - Wednesday 14th November   


You thought the running season was over? Run in the Dark will keep you fighting fit for the winter. The Run has gone global with new routes and new venues in London, Manchester and New York with more people around the world organising pop-up events in their locations.

You can raise funds for The Mark Pollock Trust or for our selected charities which support the blind, those with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities. Or, you can just do it for fun!  Find out more about Mark and The Mark Pollock Trust by clicking on the read more section below.

As a spinal cord injury pioneer, Mark is exploring the frontiers of recovery. But his training regime is intensive and needs significant funding. By running or walking 5k or 10k on Wednesday 14th November,you can support Mark's ambition to walk again.

Mark Pollock fell from a second story window in 2010. He broke his back and the damage to his spinal cord left him paralysed. Cruelly, this was not Mark’s first tragedy. 12 years earlier, he lost his sight.
As the blind adventure athlete lay in hospital, now paralysed and broken, his supporters created Run in the Dark to fuel his ambition to walk again. A spinal cord injured pioneer, he is exploring the frontiers of recovery.


Run in the Dark aims to be the biggest multi-location, mass participation running event in the world. And you can be part of it. Join us on Wednesday the 14th of November 2012!
Run in the Dark is a running event held simultaneously in 6 official locations - Dublin, Cork, Belfast, London, Manchester and New York. You can race, run, or walk either 5 km or 10 km in all locations.
