Cork Chamber Calls for Merger of Cork City and Cork County Councils
Cork Chamber has called for the merger of Cork City and Cork County Councils as we believe that now is the appropriate time to implement a unitary authority for the Cork region, in light of yet another year where both Councils have announced in recent days their inability to reduce commercial rates for 2014. Have your say: Upgrade of Shannon Park Roundabout and Shanbally junctions on the N28.

Cork County Council has advertised their Part 8 proposals for the upgrade of the Shannon Park Roundabout and Shanbally junctions on the N28, for public consultation. The proposals include the provision of a signalised roundabout at Shannon Park, incorporating a dedicated eastbound slip lane to accommodate traffic travelling from Cork to Ringaskiddy and the provision of a signalised “T” Junction at Shanbally in place of the existing roundabout.

Until such time as the upgrade of the N28 to a dual carriageway is in place, which may be c 2020, every effort to improve the traffic capacity of the N28 including this proposed upgrade at Shannon Park and Shanbally, will enhance the feasibility of any significant development in Ringaskiddy area.  This scheme is an important issue for the Chamber and we are currently preparing a submission as part of the public consultation process.
