Following the tremendous success of last year’s JCI Friendly Business Awards (FBA), JCI Cork are on the hunt for deserving businesses. In a city known worldwide for its hospitality and customer service, there are several hundred businesses in its metropolitan area alone all serving customers in true Cork style. 

JCI are looking for local businesses who offer something unique to their customers, show excellent skill with their social media interaction or offer something truly special to the community.

Every summer for the past 200 years the Munster Agricultural Society has put on a very special show in Cork. The Cork Summer Show is back and this year it is the biggest and best show yet. With a family-friendly mix of farming, food, music, home, garden, crafts, pet zone and pet dog shows, machinery, motors and entertainment for all ages the show will take place from 9am to 6pm each day on 18th and 19th June 2016 at the Showgrounds in Curraheen, Co. Cork.

The Central Bank of Ireland has today opened a consultation into the loan-to-value and loan-to-income mortgage regulations introduced in February 2015.

As part of the Central Bank’s forthcoming review of the regulations, it is now welcoming evidence-based submissions on the effectiveness of the mortgage rules and information on any side-effects that these may have had on the property market.

In February of 2016, Cork Chamber was approved as a partner on the Interreg RATIO project, which sees 9 partner organisations from 8 countries coming together as project partners to address the Europe 2020 objectives, specifically focusing on the enabling and promotion of research development and innovation in rural areas. The RATIO acronym which stands for Regional Actions To Innovate Operational Programmes will aim to strengthen innovation systems, reinforce networks and increase SME participation in RDI. The kick off meeting which involved all project partners took place on May 31^st in Zaragoza, Spain, where two representatives from Cork Chamber, a representative from Cork Innovates and a representative from South Cork Local Enterprise Office attended presenting on the Cork region. This is a four year project and there will be updates on the project status and outputs throughout.

Romania is located at the crossroads of south-eastern and central Europe and offers a gateway for business from West to East. Romania has been a member of the EU since 2007 and since joining the EU, its political structure has undergone dramatic change. Its strategic location and its competitive economy make it an ideal location for business. Key industries in Romania include high tech manufacturing to software development to creative industries. Romania’s Department of Foreign investment recently launched its new website (see here) and its aim is to provide information on the legal framework, business costs, tax and government support, infrastructure and other relevant information to overseas investors.
