New Regulatory Guidelines for Grocery Goods Undertakings

The Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation has published new consumer protection guidelines for grocery goods undertakings. These new regulations enter into force for contracts signed or renewed after April 1st 2016. The guidelines can be read here

The main purpose of this programme is to provide candidates with the tools and techniques necessary to work in a supervisory management role. You will learn the key areas of management such as roles and responsibilities, employment legislation, recruitment, performance management, data protection, operational planning and budgeting.

At the end of this programme, successful participants will be able to:

Cork Chamber is proud to announce Seamus Fives, Site Leader at Pfizer as the guest speaker for the April Business Breakfast in association with Irish Examiner.


Seamus became the Pfizer Site leader for both the Ringaskiddy & Little Island sites in January 2011, after a career which included roles as Finance Director for Ireland/Singapore, Operations Lead roles for the Cork Sites and Network Strategy Team Leader. Seamus has worked his entire professional career in manufacturing and is currently Chair of BioPharmachemical Ireland.


Seamus was Site Leader in 2015, when Pfizer reversed a plan to close the plant in Little Island, saving 160 jobs. He has been involved with the Site since 1999 and Site Leader since 2008 so this was a particularly positive announcement for Seamus. He stated that this turnaround “is an example of how continuing to focus on competiveness and adding business value generates business opportunities”


This is a unique opportunity to hear from one of the largest pharmaceuticals firms in the world.

Tyco, the world’s largest fire and security company, are now based in the heart of Cork City in Albert Quay where they have established their Global Headquarters. Tyco have embarked on their plan to grow their team to more than 500 people and deliver world class service from ‘Irelands Smartest Building’. Earlier this year Tyco announced that it will merge with Johnson Controls, with the merger expected to close in late 2016 and Cork becoming the global HQ of the merged companies. In February 2016 Tyco won both the Large and Overall categories of Cork Company of the Year Awards.

This workshop is being run by the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), in association with UCC. Guest speaker on the day will be Ben Itty, a global brand and innovation expert. Ben will showcase how the ‘craft trend’ can be applied to all businesses and will give a global analysis of what is driving success of “craft” today. What are the trends behind the change? What are these new brands doing? How can you apply the changing trends to your brand and business to market your product and service more successfully? The event will also feature a Cork case study (details to be confirmed) who has successful applied the ‘craft trend’ to their business.

 

Ben has a proven track record at large multinationals in the areas of brand strategy, consumer insights development, communications development, packaging development and innovation. Ben will share his insights and experiences with Cork SMEs and how the concept of the craft movement, in particular, can be applied to them in local and international markets. The workshop will feature ‘Share the Learning’ breakout sessions, whereby attendees can share their learnings.

Ben has 30+ years of advertising, marketing and innovation experience at large multinationals across the world. In particular, he has experience in the areas of brand strategy, consumer insights development, communications development, packaging development and innovation. Having worked in global roles based in the US, Europe and Asia, Ben recently moved to Cork. Ben will share his insights and experiences with SMEs and how the concept of the craft movement, in particular, can be applied to them in local and international markets.

Cork Chamber in association with Network Cork is hosting an executive lunch on Friday 22nd April at the Ambassador Hotel, focussing on Women in Leadership and featuring special guest speaker Deirdre Somers, Chief Executive of the Irish Stock Exchange (ISE).


Deirdre, a Cork native, was appointed Chief Executive of the Irish Stock Exchange (ISE) in June 2007. During her tenure the ISE modernised its structure, expanded its services domestically and internationally, rising to #1 stock exchange globally in fixed income and funds listings. The ISE was awarded Best Place to Work in Ireland (medium sized companies) just last month. She is currently President of the Federation of European Securities Exchanges. Deirdre is outspoken about the importance of the role of markets as a relevant and accessible funding source for companies, particularly for high potential SMEs and is looking forward to sharing her views with the people of Cork.

State Ceremonial Event on Grand Parade, Easter Monday March 28th
The Lord Mayor of Cork and the Mayor of County Cork will join together on Easter Monday, March 28, to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the National Monument on Grand Parade, Cork City. The ceremony will be one of nine such synchronised ceremonies taking place at locations around the country at 1.15pm, the time that the first shots of the 1916 Rising were fired.


This State Ceremonial Event will be preceded by the unveiling of Commemorative Plaques at County Hall and St Francis Hall on Sheares St, to mark the location of activities during the 1916 Rising in Cork City. Dignitaries will then be led by a Colour Party and the Defence Forces Army Band to a public assembly at the National Monument on Grand Parade where the State Ceremony will take place from 11.45am.
