The Irish Chamber Orchestra celebrates Christmas at the cathedral………

The Irish Chamber Orchestra presents A Night in Bethlehem, a festive feast at St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Cork on Friday 20 December.

Internationally renowned soprano Ailish Tynan joins the ICO in celebrating Christmas at the Cathedral.  She sings a host of favourites including Handel’s moving aria I Know That My Redeemer Liveth.  Verdi’s emotive cappella Ave Maria has an ethereal, timeless quality and is a key moment in the last act of Verdi's Otello.  Ailish also sings a selection of best-loved traditional Christmas carols and the ICO Chorus, alongside the Irish Chamber Orchestra, add resonance to the occasion.

Handel’s festive Op. 6 collection brims with a wealth of variety, colour, and dance rhythms and No. 7 does not disappoint.   Barber’s much-loved Adagio for Strings is one of the most beautiful and recognizable works in the modern classical music canon.  Mozart’s Divertimento in B-flat makes a vivacious return to the atmospheric Christmas mood alongside Haydn's fun-filled Toy Symphony which see the orchestra perform on some interesting instruments!

Ailish trained at Trinity College, the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Guildhall, London. She was a Vilar Young Artist at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and a BBC New Generation Artist.  She is a former recipient of the Rosenblatt Recital Prize at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World.    Don’t miss this festive roller-coaster in Limerick and Cork.

The Irish Chamber Orchestra is resident at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick and is funded by The Arts Council of Ireland/An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
