Chicago
Strengthening longstanding economic links

Chicago remains a vital partner for Cork, with deep-rooted connections across business, tourism and culture. As part of a Cork County Council delegation to its sister county, Cook County, led by Cllr. Mary Linehan Foley, Mayor of the County of Cork, Cork Chamber engaged with key stakeholders to further strengthen these long-standing ties.

The Midwest region is home to many multinational companies with established operations in Cork, and the visit provided an opportunity to engage directly with these organisations. A key highlight was visiting Motorola Solutions, which recently opened its new Global R&D Centre at Navigation Square in Cork, demonstrating continued investment and confidence in the region.

The visit also showcased the success of Irish companies expanding into North America, particularly in the food and agri sector. Engagement with Carbery Group’s Synergy Flavors facility highlighted how Cork-based businesses are achieving significant growth and impact internationally.

Meetings facilitated by the Consulate General of Ireland, alongside IDA Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, tourism partners and the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, focused on strengthening trade, tourism and investment relationships, while identifying future opportunities for collaboration.

The programme coincided with the beginning of St. Patrick’s season in Chicago, providing a valuable platform to celebrate and reinforce the cultural ties that underpin economic relationships. Participation in key events and flying the Irish flag in the Chicago Parade alongside representatives from UCC, Visit Cork, and the IHF offered a unique opportunity to showcase Cork on an international stage and deepen connections with the Irish-American community.
