Thank you!

On Friday 16th October, our colleague Barbara-Anne slept out in Cork City Gaol to "Shine a Light" on homelessness in Ireland, shockingly 738 families in total were homeless on Friday night.  Thank you to everyone who has donated in helping Focus Ireland provide vital prevention services which help change people’s lives. Donatations can be made here

It's worth the change

Rounding is rolling out on October 28th to reduce the use of 1c and 2c coins. This means less coin handling, lower bank charges and less hassle for your business.

It's easy to apply once you follow these straightforward rules:

Round your customers' change up or down to the nearest five cent on cash transactions.
  • If it ends in 1 and 2 round to 0
  • if it ends in 3 and 4 round to 5
  • If it ends in 6 and 7 round to 5
  • if it ends in 8 and 9 round to 10
For example, if the change amount is 67c, then round the amount down to 65c. If it is 68c, round it up to 70c. It couldn't be simpler. Rounding is only applied on change given on the final amount, not an individual prices.

Information packs for your business are available at Cork Chamber.

10th Anniversary of the Cork-Shanghai Sister City Agreement

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Cork-Shanghai Sister City Agreement, an agreement which is set in the context of the developing relationship between Cork and Shanghai across the areas of business, local government, education, tourism and culture. Last Saturday (17th October) a Cork delegation, comprising of local stakeholders and businesses, flew out from Cork Airport and headed for Shanghai. A snapshot of the itinerary includes meetings with Ireland’s State Agencies based in Shanghai (Bord Bia, Enterprise Ireland, IDA and Tourism Ireland); visits to SOS Ventures’ Chinaccelerator facilities; the Caoheijing Hi-Tech Park and Innovation Centre; and the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre. The group has also participated in a Sino-Irish B2B event at the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park, and has attended an EU SME Centre seminar.

The delegation will also meet the Shanghai Chamber of International Commerce and the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce. KPMG will deliver an “Overview of China’s economy, macroeconomic factors and entering the Chinese marketplace” and the delegation will also attend the Asia Pacific-Ireland Business Forum. The busy itinerary will conclude this weekend.
