Pop-Up parks
Friday 20th September

Is your business interested in hosting a PARKLET for International PARKing Day?

This is an annual event, and takes place this year on Friday 20th September. This is the same day as Culture Night. PARKing day activities take place earlier in the day, usually between 11am to approx. 4pm and is an exciting flurry of activity in advance of Culture Night activities in the City.

The sky’s the limit with what you might want to create.

PARKing Day is an annual worldwide event where artists, businesses and citizens transform paid parking spots into temporary public parks. Since it began in 2005, the concept has blossomed into a global experiment in remixing, reclaiming and reprogramming vehicular space for social exchange, recreation and enjoyment. The project now occurs annually in hundreds of cities in dozens of countries on every continent. Cork City Council, Cork County Council and the Cork Transport & Mobility Forum (TMF) facilitate this in Cork each year. The Cork TMF is a representative group of organisations who have a common interest in sustainable and active travel and of which Cork Chamber is a member of. Cork has participated in PARK(ing) Day since 2014. Last year, the day fell on the 21st September and was showcased along 4 different locations – McCurtain St (The Metropole), South Mall (RoW and The Imperial) and Western Road (Health Promotion Unit of the HSE).

This year the Cork TMF will also be hosting a Mobility Cafe on Grand Parade.

The Cork TMF is seeking expressions of interest from business teams that are interested to participate for 2019. If this sounds good to you, we can liaise with Cork City Council and Cork County Council on your behalf and to get you started. Currently this is an expression of interest activity as a limited number of locations will be chosen and all is dependent on the availability of a parking space and resources to facilitate. If you are interested please email Michelle O'Sullivan at Cork Chamber.
