About this event

The San Francisco Cork Sister City is delighted to present an in-depth discussion to better understand Ireland's view on Brexit with only weeks left in the transition period.

We are honored to have with us, Simon MacAllister, Strategy and Transactions Partner in EY, who leads their Brexit response on the island of Ireland. Opening remarks and overview by Neil Gibson, Chief Economist for EY Ireland. This webinar will be moderated by Sean Randolph, Senior Director of the Bay Area Council Economic Institute.

The seemingly endless negotiations to rip Britain out of the EU continue! There are five main policy areas we need to watch Goods Trade, Services Trade, Immigration, Data and the Northern Ireland Protocol. The new relationship and agreements between the EU and the UK should become clear when the negotiations are complete at the end of November so this session could be perfectly timed! There will be changes after the transition period, whether or not an agreement is reached – what might they be and what do we need to prepare for in 2021? What impact, if any, will the incoming Biden Administration have on the final deal? This promises to be a lively and informative discussion and will allow you an opportunity to ask your pressing Brexit questions.

The San Francisco - Cork Sister City relationship was established in May 1984. It is comprised of a group of volunteers that are dedicated to the mission of mutual promotion between the cities of San Francisco and Cork.

The Sister City concept was championed by President Eisenhower in 1956 to foster citizen diplomacy between the United States and foreign lands.

Then Mayor Feinstein led a delegation of 250 San Franciscans to Cork in 1985. Subsequently Mayors Jordan, Newsom and Lee have continued the tradition leading successful missions of citizen diplomats from the Bay Area to foster cultural and business ties.

Our friendship mission aims to mutually expand municipal, business, trade, educational, and cultural ties between San Francisco and our sister city Cork, Ireland.
