The new Critical Infrastructure Act has been signed into law, representing an important step towards reform of infrastructure delivery in Ireland. A key recommendation of the Accelerating Infrastructure Taskforce, the Act will establish a fast-track process for projects designated critical infrastructure by Government.

Cork Chamber continues to advocate for the inclusion of vital projects for Cork, Luas Cork and the Cork Northern Distributor Multi-modal Route, alongside vital renewable energy, grid and water upgrades, to ensure these projects are delivered in a timely manner, supporting population and economic growth in our region.

SHAPING CORK'S FUTURE

Working Connections: Building Pathways to Employment

Cork Education and Training Board (Cork ETB) and Cork Chamber today celebrated the success of the Working Connections programme at an employer appreciation event held at Republic of Work. The pilot initiative, which connected Youthreach learners with meaningful, employer-led work placements, marks an important step in creating inclusive pathways to employment for young people across the city and region.

Six students were referred to the programme, and placements were secured for all six across a diverse range of Cork employers, including Dell Technologies, Clayton Hotel Cork City, JW O'Donovan Solicitors, Kingsley Hotel, Talbot Hotel Midleton and Republic of Work.

This programme is a clear demonstration of what's possible when education and business work together to open doors for young people entering the workforce.

If you are interested in getting involved in the future, contact Naoimh Frawley, Director of People, Operations & Governance, Cork Chamber.

Employment (Contractual Retirement Ages) Act 2025 – What Organisations Need to Do

The Employment (Contractual Retirement Ages) Act 2025 came into effect on 29th of June 2026, introducing significant changes to how Organisations manage contractual retirement ages. The legislation provides eligible Employees with a new statutory right to notify their Employer that they do not consent to retiring at their contractual retirement age where that age is below the State pension age of sixty-six. While the Act does not abolish contractual retirement ages, it places new procedural obligations on Organisations and raises the legal threshold for enforcing a contractual retirement age.
