Morrison's Island Flood Defence Project

Cork City Council has issued pre-qualification tender documents for the Morrison's Island Public Realm and Flood Defence Project which will seek to form a panel of contractors who will be invited to tender for the works later in the year and could see construction of the long-delayed scheme, which is designed to protect the city centre from the regular flooding from which it suffers, commence in the autumn.

The Morrison’s Island upgrade will create a new south facing walkway and remove approximately 80% of city centre flooding. It will create bike lanes and public spaces where today there is only dilapidation and car parking. Currently cars have more access to this this aspect of the Lee than people.
