This programme is designed to help participants enhance their ability to communicate in a confident and professional manner. It will enable participants to acquire the skills to prepare and plan effectively for negotiations, to understand the roles and functions people play within the customer’s organisation with whom they are negotiating, to develop an awareness of strategies to deal with people in the customer organisation, to cultivate the persuasive style of conducting a professional sales negotiation, to understand how customer behaviour can influence the negotiation strategy, to explore ways to identify and deal with common barriers to achieving goals.

 

This course is ideal for anyone who wishes to improve their persuading, influencing and negotiating skills, especially people working in the areas of marketing, sales, advertising and buying.

                1.            Introduction to Effective Communication Skills

                2.            What is Persuading?

                4.            An Introduction to Negotiation

The fourth and final part within the Enterprise Europe Network’s ‘Access to Finance for SMEs’ series will take place in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Little Island and it will outline the State Agency Funding and Revenue Incentives relevant to SMEs.  

The seminar will deliver an overview of the supports available to SMEs at local, regional and national levels alongside the criteria for funding.  The Revenue commissioners will identify key tax incentives and Revenue initiatives to assist businesses.

The leading showcase for entrepreneurs, innovators, startups and small business, INBusiness INCork will take place on 14 November 2013 at City Hall, Cork.  Hosted by Cork innovates, this all-day event promises to be a ‘must-attend’ for anyone interested in business and entrepreneurship. 


This year, Cork innovates wants to help you and your business take a step in the right direction, and with this in mind, this year’s showcase is jam-packed with business value for your company, from a showcase of business support organisations and services, to a stellar line up of motivational and entrepreneurial speakers along with the Vodafone’s Smart Startup Network.

“The journey of a business begins with a number of critical steps,” explains Siobhan Finn, Cork innovates Co-ordinator.  “The INBusiness INCork showcase event will enable attendees to take those steps, meeting with potential partners, funding organisations and support agencies as well as hearing from case studies and successful entrepreneurs across every sector including technology, services, food and the craft industry,” explains Siobhán Finn.

Running from 9am to 4pm, it is expected that this showcase will attract record numbers.  The event is free to attend, but registration is recommended at https://inbusinessincorkshowcase.eventbrite.ie/

The Cork innovates steering group comprises representatives from Cork City Council and Cork County Council, the four Enterprise Boards in the region, Enterprise Ireland, UCC, CIT, Cork Chamber, CorkBIC and the South West Regional Authority (SWRA) as well as a number of entrepreneurs.  These stakeholders have come together to identify and support key projects and activities to promote Cork as a location of choice for regional, national and international entrpreneurs. Vist the Cork innovates website here .

 


The STARTUP EXPRESS
 

Nearly 180 entrepreneurs, businesspeople, technologists, students and general startup junkies from the region were transported to Dublin to facilitate them taking part in the event. Once on board they were given the opportunity to take part in a host of networking and activities in three specially designated carriages.

Best of all, it was completely free with all costs being covered by three of Cork’s technology companies - VoxPro, PCH International and Trustev.

Cork Chamber was delighted to support this initiative and in the above picture you will see our President Gillian Keating just about to board!

Enterprise Europe Network ‘Building a Business on Your Ideas’ Seminar, November 21, Waterford Institute of Technology

The Enterprise Europe Network Ireland, in cooperation with the Irish Patents Office and the Enterprise Boards, will host a seminar on ‘Building a Business on Your Ideas’ in the Auditorium, Waterford Institute of Technology, Main Campus, Cork Road, Waterford on Thursday, 21 November. Speakers will include representatives from the Patents Office, Enterprise Ireland, Waterford City Enterprise Board, The Enterprise Europe Network, Waterford Institute of Technology and a Patent Attorney. EU-China Exhibition on Urban Development, November 20-23, Beijing, China

The EU-China Exhibition on Urban Development will be held from November 20-23 in Beijing. The emphasis is on solutions to increased urbanisation in both China and Europe. The event will be attended by Chinese city governments, provinces and companies. It is being heavily promoted by the EU. All of Cork’s existing and potential partner cities and provinces in China will be present at the Exhibition. Cork City Council has reserved exhibition space for the event. It will be an opportunity to promote Cork as an investment location to Chinese interests and an opportunity for Cork companies to promote themselves to Chinese customers and Chinese partners. The wider Southwest region can also be promoted at the event. EU Commission’s ‘Mission for Growth to Portugal’, November 28-29, Lisbon, Portugal

The EU Commission’s Mission for Growth to Portugal will be held from November 28-29 in Lisbon, Portugal. This Mission for Growth can offer real value for participating companies, in particular on the Economy of the Sea strand, a strand which is very important for both Ireland and Portugal. Portugal has great political interest to develop this sector of its economy and Irish companies have a great deal to offer in terms of technology expertise on maritime sectors. ICS is now offering a new HETAC Level 8 course in Business Analysis. The course was developed by the Business Analysts Association of Ireland and is delivered by the National College of Ireland. The programme is delivered two days per month across six months and leads to the Certificate in Business Analysis .

UCC are hosting a series of Innovation Workshops in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship over the 2013/14 academic year.  The first workshop is entitled "Structuring your Innovation Process: Managing the levers of success" and is aimed at organisations beginning their journey towards effective innovation management.  It will address the key challenges associated with innovation management and present a number of models applicable when structuring organisational innovation.  The workshop will be delivered by Dr. Lawrence Dooley of UCC’s Management & Marketing Department.
