Dunkettle Progress Update

Works have recommenced on the Dunkettle Interchange project. The upgrade works are to achieve a largely free-flow interchange to alleviate traffic congestion

The site reopened for construction works on Monday 18th May 2020.

Material deliveries to the site of the N8 to M8 free flow slip are ongoing and will continue for a number of weeks.  No disruption to traffic is anticipated as a result of these works. Close by, the construction of the slip road that will link the Dunkettle Roundabout with the Glanmire-Glounthaune Road east of the Gaelscoil has recommenced. This requires the construction of a reinforced earth wall to protect the Cork to Midleton railway line to the south. Construction of this wall is progressing well and is on track for completion in June.

At the Dunkettle Roundabout itself, the installation of road crossings continues in preparation for the commissioning of controlled pedestrian crossing points

Works have commenced on the Little Island regional road R623 in the area of the proposed new roundabout west of the Henkel site, initially involving exposure and protection of existing underground utilities. No major disruption to traffic is anticipated as a result of these works, which will continue up to August 2020.

Demolition of the concrete parapet on the N8-N25 bridge over the Glashaboy river has now been completed, with measures in place to protect the watercourse. Construction of the replacement parapet will proceed from next week.

Piling equipment has been remobilised to the area between the N25 westbound and the Pfizer premises at Little Island as part of protection works to a major Gas Networks Ireland distribution main. Works have progressed well, with piling due to be completed by early next week.

Delivery of materials for a major diversion of the 900mm watermain serving Little Island commenced today, with diversion works scheduled to be carried out on a 24/7 basis over the weekend of Friday 29th to Sunday 31st May. The scheduling is aimed at minimising the extent and the duration of disruption. Further detail on this element will be provided in the update of 29th May
