Your colleague could win up to €500
Great way to recognise staff
The One4all Spotlight Awards, in association with Chambers Ireland, have been launched to help shine a light on employees that deserve special recognition within their organisations. With recent research showing that 40% of Irish companies do not offer any sort of benefit/reward for staff loyalty, this is your opportunity to recognise and reward a member of staff who goes above and beyond in their role to achieve success.
The Spotlights are completely free to enter, and submitting your entry takes less than five minutes. Whether you have a great colleague who deserves a little more recognition or an outstanding team member who has contributed to the success of your business, the Spotlights are your chance to say 'thank you'.
The Spotlights will be judged by a panel of judges that will include independent and Chambers representatives from around the country. One overall Spotlights winner will be chosen and awarded a €500 One4all Gift Card and a trophy, while Silver and Bronze winners will receive €300 and €200 Gift Cards respectively.
To nominate a member of staff, simply visit online and fill in the short form above. Entries close on Friday 27th October. Judging will take place Friday 3rd November, with winners being contacted and announced shortly afterwards.
No change in Local Property Tax in 2018
Both Cork City Council and Cork County Council have voted to retain local property tax at the base level for 2018.
This decision comes on foot of Cork Chamber having asked all City Councillors to avoid lowering the local property tax, which would have resulted in a net loss of €1.6 million to the Council coffers.
The consequential result would likely be cuts to services or further increases to commercial rates.
The policy team will continue to engage with local Councillors as they prepare the full budget for 2018, including the setting of commercial rates.
Here at Cork Chamber we are proud as representatives of the Cork business community to have been part of the strategy development and now the implementation steering groups for the Cork Age Friendly City and the Cork Age Friendly County initiatives.
Most recently, the first annual report of Cork Age Friendly City Strategy was launched and reported on the ambitious targets set out originally in May 2016, and which will remain in place for the lifetime of the strategy to 2020.
This strategy was developed by the Cork Age Friendly City Alliance, an interagency partnership comprising representatives from the public, not-for-profit and community organisations, together working to proactively enhance the liveability of Cork City for older citizens, and lead by Cork City Council.
The thematic actions have focused on Community Support and Health Services; Communication and Information; Transportation; Outdoor Spaces and Buildings; Civic Participation and Employment; Respect and Social Inclusion; Social Participation and Housing. Cork Chamber has been actively engaged across all thematic areas with the main focus being in communications and information provision towards promoting the Age Friendly Business programme. This programme recognises the efforts and improvements made by businesses to provide more Age Friendly services and products. It is a recognition programme, is low to zero cost, and invites business of all sizes and types to participate and be listed as an Age Friendly Business. Participating businesses have experienced increased footfall and higher turnover as they reach out to a growing demographic estimated to be worth over €10 billion. To get involved in this programme please contact Michelle by email or call 021 4530132.

Building and Leading High Performance Teams (3 Day Programme) Starts October 23rd - €425 for Chamber Members!
This 3-day Building and Leading High Performing Teams course takes a comprehensive look at leadership styles, leading and motivating employees and developing high performance teams.
Based on the principle that no leadership behaviour is suitable for all situations, the highly interactive programme is designed to provide participants with an insight into their current behavioural traits, preferred leadership styles and the ways in which they can adapt these to become more effective leaders. Gaining immediate feedback from fellow delegates, they explore the characteristics of a good manager and leader, as well as becoming more aware of the differences that may exist between their own motivations and those of their team members. This will allow them to understand how they can better motivate others, both as individuals and as teams, in a way that enhances overall performance.
