17% increase in exports from September to October

New figures from the CSO confirm that exports have increased by 17% between September and October 2015 bringing the total export figure in October to €10.3 billion. The EU remains the most significant market for Irish exporters as it accounts for 49% of all exports. Looking at countries alone, the US is the most important export market followed by Great Britain, Belgium and Switzerland.

These expanding figures show that exports are continually playing a key part in driving Ireland’s recovering economy which currently is the fastest growing in Europe and set to grow more than 7% this year, as announced by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform last week.

Emergency Humanitarian scheme to support small businesses affected by flooding

The Government announced details of the scheme to provide emergency humanitarian support to small businesses that have been unable to secure flood insurance. The scheme is being administered through the Irish Red Cross.

What will it cover:
The scheme will contribute towards the costs of repairing business premises, including the replacement of flooring, fixtures and fittings and damaged stock. The scheme will not provide a contribution to loss of earnings or loss of business good-will.

Who can apply: Small businesses (up to 20 employees) that could not avail of flood insurance, the business premises must have been flooded during the 4th – 17th December 2015 and this fact must be verified by the Local Authority. At the time of the flood the business must have been trading and in a rateable premises.

When: The scheme is open now and closing date for completed applications is 15 January 2016. For more information or to download application form visit website here.

Lead Change Successfully in 2016

Period of the offer available: 31/01/2016

How to Plan for Success Through Your People is a short, intensive one-to-one programme for leaders that delivers an enhanced understanding of how to engage people and a customised plan for leading their own change project.  Chamber members can avail of a 15% saving by booking before end January 2016.

Are you planning some important changes in your business in 2016?

More than 70% of organisational change efforts fail! Many of the reasons for these failures have been identified as

  • Failure to share the vision successfully
  • Failure to communicate effectively throughout the change cycle
  • Failure to deal effectively with fear and resistance around change
  • Failure to have meaningful accountability for success or failure

None of these reasons have anything to do with the actual planned change itself, but rather with the leadership and motivation of the people involved. We so often fail to give the time and attention needed to engage people properly in change from the beginning resulting costly delays and often failure.

I have been partnering successfully with leaders and organisations for 10 years now to help them design and implement change in a way that achieves their goals and leaves them with a happy, motivated workforce. My client list includes banks, pharmaceuticals, technology companies, SMEs and charities.

I am now offering intensive one-to-one half-day and full-day programmes for leaders on How to Plan for Success Through Your People. The programme will involve

  • A discovery phone-call to get a clear understanding about your particular challenge and change context
  • A one-to-one half-day or full-day session where we cover the essential things that you need to understand in order to engage your people successfully in your change project and avoid resistance and fear. You will also leave with a customised plan for how you are going to engage and communicate with your people throughout your project.
  • 1-2 follow up coaching sessions by phone to ensure that you are getting the results you desire when you are implementing your plan.

This programme can take place at your office, on-line or at a pleasant hotel setting and is priced accordingly.

To discover if this programme will deliver what you need for 2016, please contact Miriam by calling 087-2399522 or emailing miriam@spaceforchange.ie.
