Ireland's international relationships continue to evolve. The shape of our international trade with the UK is adjusting to the terms of the new Trade and Cooperation Agreement while in parallel, Ireland works to broaden and strengthen our relationships across the Single Market. It is very welcome news this week, that Brittany Ferries has announced its first freight-only services from the Port of Cork to Roscoff from this coming Saturday. This direct route from Cork to mainland EU is a key strategic connection for the region that highlights the growing importance of the redevelopment of the port infrastructure at Ringaskiddy. With Government support for border and customs inspection infrastructure at the Port there is huge potential for this growth trajectory to continue apace.  

 

We understand the challenges business are facing in relation to the movement of goods and we have seen an increase in enquiries relating to Export Documentation, Certificates of Origin and ATA Carnets for temporary exportation. Government has announced another commercial rates package for the first quarter of 2021. This is a welcome and necessary announcement along with the commitment that the support to businesses will be targeted to those most severely impacted. Commercial Rates Waiver
 

Minister Peter Burke, Minister of State for Planning and Local Government, has announced another commercial rates package for local authorities totalling €160 million for the first quarter of 2021. Minister Burke has outlined that support to businesses will be targeted to those most severely impacted, such as hospitality, leisure, childcare, personal care, entertainment, retail (excluding large supermarkets), airports, health and service stations. 

 

The waiver of commercial rates beyond the first quarter of 2021 will be kept under review and considered in the context of public health guidelines.


Self-employed people and PUP
 

Self-employed people in receipt of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) who are looking to maintain their business can earn up to €960 over an eight week period, while retaining their full PUP entitlement.

 

There is no formal application process and a self-employed person simply needs to inform the department if they earn over €960 in any eight week period.
EXEED Grant 2021 is now open for businesse
 

The EXEED Grant is now open for 2021 with Government funding of €14 million available for businesses. The grant is suitable for organisations who are planning an energy investment project and are willing to follow the EXEED Certified standard for Excellence in Energy Efficient Design.
