Santiago de Compostela (also Saint James of Compostela) is the capital of the autonomous community of Galicia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city’s cathedral is the reputed burial-place of Saint James the Greater, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ and it is the destination of the Way of St. James, a major historical pilgrimage route since the Early Middle Ages.
