Cork Chamber will hold the first Business After Hours networking event on Wednesday 10th February upstairs in the Oliver Plunkett Bar. The Oliver Plunkett Bar, part of the Rearden’s Group, brings the best of Cork’s live entertainment to their stage 7 nights a week.

This traditional Irish pub serves food throughout the day, with a dedicated whiskey bar on the 1st floor.  Join with your fellow Cork Chamber networkers for a lively and enjoyable networking event.

Cork Chamber enthusiastically welcomed the launch of the new tourism strategy which emphasises the strengths of the entire Cork region as a tourism destination entitled ‘Growing Tourism in Cork: a collective strategy’. This strategy, which engaged key players in the tourism sector from across the City and County in its development, sets out focussed plans on how the region can best position itself as a must visit tourist destination.

Enterprise Europe Network B2B event at Biofach 2016, 11th-1th2 February, Nuremburg, Germany

Biofach has become the world’s leading trade fair on organic food. Once again, Enterprise Europe Network will hold free pre-arranged 30 minute 1:1 meetings at its B2B event. Enterprise Europe Network Wales is offering free registration for all international clients (saving €700 per registration) at Biowales 2016!

Biowales is the flagship event for the life sciences sector in Wales, and one of the UK’s leading life science conferences. It is now in its 14th year and this year’s event will take place in the Wales Millennium Centre on 1-2 March.  Registration is free for all international clients, to include a gala dinner (thus saving €700).

EU Sustainable Energy Award

If you are promoting energy efficiency or renewable energy, then check out the EU Sustainable Energy Award.

Award categories:

  • Consumers
    • Rewarding actions leading to the behavioural change of individual energy users
  • Public sector
    • Rewarding public and non-profit organisations taking exemplary initiatives in energy efficiency or use of renewables
  • Businesses
    • Rewarding forward-thinking businesses which are exemplary in their production or use of energy
  • Citizens’ Award
    • Rewarding the nominee which best captures the public imagination

Initiatives will be judged for their:

  • Excellence in their area and innovation
  • Measurable impact and contribution to the EU’s sustainable energy objectives
  • Replication potential and social acceptance.

Eligibility criteria

  • Geographical scope
    • The project coordinator must be based in the EU
  • Practical application
    • Research projects are not eligible. The aim of the Awards is to collect and showcase outstanding projects with a high impact and replication potential. Academic studies and theoretical research projects without any long-term, real-scale application directly linked to renewable energy or energy efficiency are therefore not eligible.
  • Timing
    • The project must be ongoing or have concluded after 30 June 205. Projects which are still at the planning stage or not yet fully operational are not eligible. 

 

The closing date for receipt of applications is 22nd February.

Speaker Profile:

John O’Mara currently serves as Executive Director, Finance EMEA & APAC for the Dell Software Group and is based in Cork, Ireland. John also provides Site Leadership for the 300 person Cork site.

In his Role John works closely with the Software business leadership to define and implement the Software business strategy including integration with the different business units in Dell to bring Software to Dell customers as part of our Solutions Portfolio.

John joined Dell in 2012 as part of the Quest Software acquisition; he brings a wealth of Finance and General Management experience to Dell with more than 20 years multi-national experience in a variety of sectors. Most recently John spent two years as CFO of a Global Confectionery business, 11 years as International Finance Director for APAC & EMEA with a NASDAQ listed EDA Software business, 3 years as Group Controller of a NASDAQ listed Clinical Research business and various Factory Controller roles in the Healthcare and PC Manufacturing sectors.

John holds an MBA from the University of Limerick, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in Ireland and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Cork. John is an active member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland, participates on the Leadership Council of the Cork Chamber of Commerce, on the Advisory Council at Gateway UCC and as a Board Member for a number of companies.
