Chamber submission to the National Aviation Policy

This week’s issue provides details on the Chamber’s submission to the Department of Transport’s consultation on ‘A National Aviation Policy’ and the Chamber’s support for the redevelopment of Marina Park.

Also as part of our 2013 Policy Plan, the policy team continues to undertake a series of monthly polls to seek the views of our membership.  This month we want to know would you avail of a Cork-Dublin air route for business travel.  Click HERE to let us know.

As the principal international gateway for the South of Ireland, Cork Airport’s services and air-connectivity is critical to the overall economic performance and long-term competitiveness of Cork and its surrounding regions. Cork Airport’s services and air connectivity are accordingly, a core priority for the Chamber given the vital role of regional, accessible air-services in facilitating business and commercial activities and wider regional economic development.

Cork Chamber has prepared a submission in response to the Department of Transport’s consultation on a National Aviation Policy which makes specific recommendations based on feedback from our members regarding key issues that need to be addressed to ensure that the Policy is responsive the air-connectivity needs and requirements of the business community in Cork. Our recommendations are designed to support and enhance the region’s capacity to capitalise on the economic opportunities that result from high quality airport services and demand-led air connectivity.

Further details on our submission are available HERE

The Policy Department would like to thank members who provided feedback and comments in the preparation of this submission.

Cork Chamber supports Redevelopment of Marina Park:

Cork Chamber has communicated its support for the proposed redevelopment plans for Marina Park to Cork City Council as part of the public consultation on the Draft Master Plan for the Marina Park.

The Chamber recognises and welcomes the economic benefits that will result from the redevelopment and upgrading of Pairc Uí Chaoimh to a modern stadium and the added development of a Centre of Excellence.  This redevelopment will provide a welcome boost for the local construction industry as well as longer term employment opportunities that will result from the hospitality, facilities management, servicing and Gaelic games development jobs at the new Pairc Uí Chaoimh amenities.  In addition to the GAA games and additional sporting, conference and entertainment events that will be held at the upgraded facilities, it will also provide additional wider economic benefits for the tourism, retail and hospitality sectors.

Are you obliged to conform to SEPA standards?

Yes, EU regulation 260/2012 means that all businesses must conform to the new SEPA standards before the end-date of 1 February 2014.

What is the SEPA timeframe? SEPA has been introduced on a phased basis. The rollout of SEPA credit transfer and direct debit capabilities began across the 32 SEPA countries in 2008.

By 1 February 2014, all existing national credit transfer and direct debit schemes must move to the SEPA credit transfer and direct debit payment schemes. At that point, IBAN and BIC codes will replace national sort codes and account numbers for all euro electronic payments.
