Over the past weeks, the policy team has been very active making submissions to local and national Government to improve Cork’s attractiveness as a place to work and live.
We have shared our voice on:
The M28 Ringaskiddy motorway
The future traffic and transportation strategy for Little Island
The levying of Local Property Tax in Cork City
The design of the Harley Street Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge
As always, our policy submissions are formed on the back of our members’ valuable feedback.
Please do keep an eye out for future feedback requests, and do get in touch with the policy team if we can help advocate on your behalf.
Safeguarding the rights of EU Citizens and their family members in the UK is a top priority
In the 14th edition of the Cork Chamber ‘Brexit Beyond the Border’ series, we spoke to Anna Hakala, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Finland to Ireland. Counsellor Hakala shared the Finnish outlook on Brexit and emphasised the need to increase trade and contacts between Finland and Ireland in the wake of Brexit.
Reducing the gender pay gap is part of the Programme for Government. As part tackling this issue, the Department of Justice are currently inviting feedback on the following:
The factors creating the gender pay gap
The actions that need to be taken
How to implement these actions
One action proposed is: “Promote wage transparency by requiring companies of 50 or more employees to complete a wage survey periodically and report the results.”
If your company employs more than 50 people we would very much like to hear your thoughts on above by end-week, which we will then feed back into the Department.

Customs and Trade post-Brexit: What do I need to know?
With negotiations for the Brexit divorce deal underway, it is clear that Britain leaving the single market and customs union will pose a threat to many Irish companies. Whilst Ireland’s trade with Britain will not cease under Brexit, it will become more complicated.
Carol Lynch, Partner in BDO’s Customs and International Trade Services will deliver two workshop's which will focus on preparing for the possible customs controls and duties in Ireland-UK trade post Brexit, based on the various scenarios that may emerge. Whilst we do not know what (if any) trade agreement will be settled upon, it may take a number of formats and these formats will form the basis of these workshops.
With the UK being the No. 1 destination for Irish food and drink exports over the past number of years, the Irish agri-food industry will undoubtedly be presented with unprecedented challenges with regard to Customs and Trade, post Brexit. The UK will continue to be a critically important market for Irish agri-food products.
On Wednesday 4th October, Carol will deliver a targeted workshop; aimed at assisting food and drink companies in their preparation for the various customs and trade scenarios which may arise due to Brexit.
Get to Grips with Data Protection is a free half-day (morning) conference that will take place in the Maryborough Hotel.
