Calling all writers!
Business School @ Cork Chamber

“Any scientist who cannot explain what he is doing to a reasonably intelligent 14-year old is either incompetent or a charlatan” - Einstein.

Unfortunately, most business people, scientists and engineers have real difficulty with communicating their ideas to each other - not to mention a 14-year old. That's where technical writing comes in. Good technical writers excel at explaining difficult concepts for readers who will have no time to read twice. They know structure, punctuation, syntax, and style. They avoid verbosity. They excel at explaining difficult concepts for readers who will have no time to read twice.

This new one-day course will be running on the 6th February next and is only €130.00 for Chamber members - BOOK NOW!

Date: 30th January
Time: 6pm, lecture at 6.30pm
Venue: Nimbus Seminar Room
To Book: Please RSVP to sinead.rodgers@cit.ie as space is limited

This talk will examine uncertainty-driven unique challenges and opportunities in cyber-physical systems and smart environments, and their inter-winding relationships with pervasive computing and communications. The talk will be concluded with provocative thoughts, open issues and future directions of research. Speaker: Professor Sajal K. Das, Director, Center for Research in Wireless Mobility and Networking (CReWMaN), Department of Computer Science and Engineering, The University of Texas at Arlington, USA.

Rapid advancements in smartphones, wireless sensors and mobile communications have led to the development of cyber-physical systems, smart environments, and pervasive computing with important applications in environmental, civilian, military, industry, and government sectors. Sensor networks and smartphones play significant roles in this context as they not only act as effective interface between physical and cyber worlds, but also bring in human social aspects. However, increasing scale and heterogeneity at all levels - users, devices, networking and computing technologies, information and services - implies a high degree of uncertainty in distributed control and operations of pervasive and cyber-physical systems, thereby posing significant challenges in providing desired information quality, assurance, and reliability for intelligent decision making. This is particularly important for applications like smart health care, smart energy management, and pervasive security.

This talk will examine uncertainty-driven unique challenges and opportunities in cyber-physical systems and smart environments, and their inter-winding relationships with pervasive computing and communications. The talk will be concluded with provocative thoughts, open issues and future directions of research.
