2040 Investment Commitments Must Happen Now
Calls for ‘Minister for City Regions’ at Cork Chamber’s Annual Dinner in Dublin

Speaking at Cork Chamber’s 8th annual dinner held last night Chamber President Bill O’Connell narrated a vision of Cork in 2030 underpinned by Government delivery of the National Development Plan without delay.  A thriving and diverse city region, facilitated by light rail, infrastructure, downtown living and access to waterways.

Let’s do it, let’s make it happen. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to make Cork a global destination and a real complement to Dublin. We need investment commitments to get underway and deliver on Government’s 2040 vision. From bus connects, to light rail, and density of urban housing, delays in delivery must not hamper Cork’s growth potential.”

Designation of a Minister for City Regions with responsibility for improving our urban environment would strongly reinforce the Government intent to deliver on Ireland 2040”, said Mr. O’Connell.

“City regions are playing an increasing role internationally in attracting people and showcasing Ireland as a viable home for global companies. In Cork, we aspire to work in collaboration with our capital city towards the common goal of protecting the future growth of the Irish economy and society. Our vision for the future of Ireland is that of liveable cities to be proud of. Where sustainable urban living is invested in, planned for and supported by Government” the Chamber President concluded.
