Supporting You

Dear Chamber Member,

I hope that you and your colleagues are keeping well. This week has been marked by a number of positive pieces of news for Cork, which are hugely welcome as we emerge through the final stages of easing of restrictions.

Today, we welcome news of expansion by two of our members. Boston Scientific announced a €30m expansion of their Cork facility, creating 70 new jobs, as they enhance their capabilities of manufacturing minimally-invasive medical technologies that treat patients suffering from cancer and peripheral arterial diseases around the world. This investment further bolsters our reputation as a centre for excellence in life sciences and medtech.

Altada, this year’s winner of the Emerging category of the Cork Company of the Year Awards, also shared positive news today of their €10m funding to support the expansion of their business, and the recruitment of 100 new employees, as the demand for their AI assisted data management continues to rise. Altada continue to demonstrate their ability to deliver, fuelled by their entrepreneurial spirit and innovative technology.

On Tuesday, Ryanair announced that it is to reopen its base at Cork Airport, which is a hugely welcome vote of confidence in the region and will help to position Cork on the road to economic recovery as the airline facilitates a great deal of business and tourism throughout the entire southern region. The announcement means that Cork Airport can begin to build on the momentum and success it was experiencing prior to the pandemic when passenger numbers were reaching record highs and the airport itself was Ireland’s fastest growing airport.

As the country continues to emerge from the effects of COVID19, Cork's connectivity will once again become a key driver of the region's economy. We are interested to know your views towards air and rail travel, and ask that you complete our short survey to share your thoughts on this and on your business experiences in the last quarter. Please complete the survey HERE.

We look forward to hosting the Cork Digital Marketing Awards on this Friday at 12pm. These are much anticipated awards which celebrate the ingenuity, creativity and responsive role that digital marketing plays for so many in our business community. This event is free to attend and you can register for this, or any of our other Autumn series of events on our website <HERE>.

Warm regards,

Conor Healy
