Train the Trainer – a FETAC Level 6 Course – 14th January, 2013

This 3 day course, one of our more popular, is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, deliver, assess and evaluate training programmes. It is suitable for people who are working in the area of training and development or who will soon be assuming a training position within their organisation. Participants on this course will gain practical experience and recognised certification as trainers.

  • Explain critical elements of a trainers' role;
  • Understand the functions and processes of learning and training;
  • Evaluate different approaches to training;
  • Appreciate the importance of training on an individual, social and economic level;

  • Apply the principles of training design in preparing lesson plans;
  • Deliver training effectively in one-to-one and group situations, and select appropriate techniques for assessing trainee progress;
  • Identify different levels of evaluation and evaluate the effectiveness of training programmes;
  • Develop and implement appropriate assessment methods.

Certificate in Business & Executive Coaching (FETAC Level 6) – 16th January, 2013

Business Coaching for Peak Performance (FETAC Level 6) is designed to provide those with responsibilities for developing workplace competencies with the skills needed to develop individual performance in others. Competencies are identified behaviours, knowledge, skills, and abilities that directly and positively impact the success of employees and organizations. It is designed to create an understanding of the organisational and workplace context within which performance and individual career development takes place and it will provide the skills, knowledge and tools required to carry out effective coaching in the workplace. Coaching is about unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their performance. The main objective of this course is to turn managers into effective managers.

Project Management Professional – 22nd January, 2013

The 3 day Professional Project Management course is designed to establish a detailed understanding of Project Management terms, concepts and methodologies. The hands-on approach of this course ensures trainees “learn by doing” and gain a step-by-step, real-time experience of using the tools and implementing the methodologies and support structures. In simulating real-life environments, trainees gather the detailed knowledge required to apply the training on return to their work environment.

This course is designed especially for:

a)      Experienced project managers who had to learn ‘on the job’ and may not be aware of the different proven tools and techniques that exist and that can make their lives easier;

b)       New or prospective project managers, who are looking for guidance on the “right” way to manage their projects;

c)      People who intend to get certified as a PM, and who need to complete the required training so that they can meet the certification requirements;

d)      Functional Managers, who may have to manage some projects “part-time” in addition to their real jobs. Many of the PM tools and methods can also apply to line management and deliver real value.

The new Intelligent Energy – Europe call for proposals is open!
In 2013, there will be €65 million available for IEE funding
 

The EU has set itself ambitious targets to achieve clean and secure energy for tomorrow. An optimal use of available tools is necessary to meet these targets. A wide range of technologies and methods exist to improve energy efficiency, turn renewables into viable energy sources and reduce emissions. However, market conditions prevent them from reaching their full potential. This is where the Intelligent Energy – Europe (IEE) programme comes in. It supports their use and dissemination and the Europe-wide exchange of related knowledge and know-how.  In 2013, there will be €65 million available for IEE funding. European Year of Citizens 2013 – Public debate
Dublin City Hall, Dame Street, Dublin 2, 10th January 2013 (registration from 12.30)
 

To mark the launch of 2013 as the European Year of Citizens, the Department of the Taoiseach and the European Commission are organising a Citizens’ Dialogue event, taking place during the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU. This event will provide interested citizens with a unique opportunity to attend the launch of the European Year of Citizens with Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD; Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore TD and the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso.  

 


Following the launch, you will have the opportunity to engage in a Citizens’ Dialogue – a frank and open exchange of opinions on the current economic crisis, the rights of European citizens and the future of the European Union – with Vice-President of the European Commission, Ms Viviane Reding and Minister of State for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton TD.

Information Seminar on new Late Payment Directive
European Union House, Dublin Tuesday 15th January (13.15-17.45)

The European Commission is hosting an information seminar on 15th January 2013 which will give participants the opportunity to learn more about the application of the new Late Payment Directive (2011/7/EU), which is due to be transposed into Irish law by 16 March 2013. Every year across Ireland, thousands of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) go bankrupt waiting for their invoices to be paid. Its objective is to ensure the payment of business to business invoices within 60 days, and public authority to business invoices within 30 days.  

 

 


This Directive is an important legal development and businesses will be able to learn more about the new legal rights it confers, as well as to ask questions and to discuss issues relevant to them. Speakers at the seminar will include:

In aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research at The River Lee Hotel, Cork
 

‘Women’s Little Christmas’ Afternoon Tea event in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research, takes place at The River Lee Hotel on the Western Road Cork on January 6th from  2-6pm. Tickets to the fabulous event, which is now in its second year, cost only €30 and will include a drinks reception on arrival, sumptuous Afternoon Tea (of finger sandwiches, fruit scones with jam, clotted cream and butter, and a variety of cakes and patisseries), makeovers and style advice, pampering, boutique market stalls, a fashion showcase of some of Munster’s top boutiques, goody bags for all, a Best Dressed competition for the ladies and much more!


 "Real People" will walk our fashion parade and be joined by two former cancer patients who have one won their battle with the disease  and will ‘strut their stuff’ after a head to toe makeover.

Women’s Little Christmas is a fabulous excuse to catch up with the girls, so make sure you take part in this annual tradition that is one of Cork’s oldest customs – we’re still overworked and underappreciated, aren’t we?

Breakthrough Cancer Research is dedicated to raising funds to develop new treatments for cancers that have a poor prognosis and currently respond poorly to conventional therapies, which will lead to new clinical trials for cancer patients all over Ireland and abroad. 

The Centre is currently raising funds to fast track their on-going research, one of which is aimed at delivering new treatments for ovarian and cervical cancer. This event raises vital funds for research into the cancer affecting women.

Gerry Walsh – Brief Biography:

Gerry Walsh is an Advisor and Business Consultant in Strategic Management and is also an experienced Executive Coach. He combines his management experience and coaching skills to work at CEO and Director level and with Executive Teams in a range of Irish businesses.

For a number of years, Gerry was a partner at Praesta Irl Ltd, Ireland’s leading Executive Coaching practice, having graduated in Executive Coaching at Henley Business School.

He is a non-executive director in a number of companies in private and public sectors.

Gerry, a UCC Engineering and MBA graduate is a Fellow of Engineers Ireland.

Having started his career in the construction industry, Gerry Walsh spent over twenty years working in Bord Gais Eireann (BGE). He filled a number of General Management and Strategic roles in BGE culminating in a seven year period as Chief Executive. He led the transformation of the state-owned business to become a highly successful all Ireland natural gas and electricity supplier and investor in electricity generation.

He left BGE in 2007 to work in the private sector as a strategic business consultant, setting up Spruce Consulting Ltd.

BNI Cork City Chapter hosts charity networking event - Tuesday 15th January
 

Business Network International’s (BNI) Cork City Chapter will hold a mentoring and networking evening at Nemo Rangers GAA Club, off South Douglas Road, Douglas at 6.15pm to 9pm on Tuesday 15th January 2013. The entrance fee is €15 with all proceeds going to Cork Rebel Wheelers. Attendees will have access to expert advice and tips and have a chance to connect with other professionals through a fun speed network half hour. There will also be an extensive choice of mentoring sessions available on the evening.


The entrance fee is €15 with all proceeds going to Cork Rebel Wheelers, a volunteer run sports club for people with physical disabilities. Along with a networking event attendees will be offered mentoring sessions with the professional experts of the Cork City Chapter, who have referred over €7m worth of business to each other over the past three years.
