Cork Chamber congratulates newly-elected Mayors

The Chamber recently wrote to the newly-elected Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr. Catherine Clancy congratulating her on her recent election and congratulates Cllr. Noel O’Connor on his recent election as Mayor of Cork County.

In other news, the Chamber wishes to congratulate Marion O’Donovan of O’Donovan Engineering who was the winner of the Chamber’s Q2 Economic Trends Survey.

The Chamber has congratulated Cllr. Catherine Clancy on her recent election as Lord Mayor of Cork and also congratulates Cllr. Noel O’Connor on his recent election as Mayor of Cork County.  The Chamber looks forward to meeting with the newly elected mayors in coming weeks to present the Chamber’s views on the needs and supports required for Cork-based businesses in addition to highlighting our priority policies for the economic development of the Cork region. 

The Chamber would also like to congratulate the outgoing Lord Mayor Cllr. John Buttimer on his successful term of office and thanks him for his support of the business community over the past 12 months. 



Q2 2013 Economic Trends Survey Winner

Congratulations to Marion O’Donovan of O’Donovan Engineering who won the draw for the Q2 Economic Trends Survey prize.  Marion wins Champagne Afternoon Tea for 2 at the Hayfield Manor Hotel. 

We would like to thank all those who participated in the survey which is essential to our work representing members on key business issues.  The information provided in this survey supports the Chamber in prioritising its lobbying and representation activities with regional stakeholders, state agencies and local and national government.  Further details and survey results will be outlined in the forthcoming Economic Bulletin.

The Business School is currently offering a FETAC accredited Train the Trainer course due to start on the 11th July. This course is ideal for trainers and subject-matter experts who want to take their training skills to the next level and beyond. Subject matter experts come to a topic with a great deal of knowledge and expertise.

Course Dates: 11th, 18th & 25th July

Member Rate: €400.00

This 3 day course, one of our more popular, is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, deliver, assess and evaluate training programmes. It is suitable for people who are working in the area of training and development or who will soon be assuming a training position within their organisation. Participants on this course will gain practical experience and recognised certification (FETAC Level 6) as trainers.

At the end of this programme successful participants will be able to:

 

  • Understand different learning styles;
  • Explain critical elements of a trainers' role;
  • Understand the functions and processes of learning and training;
  • Evaluate different approaches to training;
  • Appreciate the importance of training on an individual, social and economic level;
  • Work effectively with a range of learner groups;
  • Explain the training needs analysis process and set appropriate training objectives;
  • Apply the principles of training design in preparing lesson plans;
  • Deliver training effectively in one-to-one and group situations, and select appropriate techniques for assessing trainee progress;
  • Identify different levels of evaluation and evaluate the effectiveness of training programmes;
  • Develop and implement appropriate assessment methods.

What will SEPA mean for businesses?
 

All businesses must be ready for SEPA, as all existing national payment systems will close on 1 February 2014. You will need to ensure that your payroll, direct debit and accounting systems are SEPA ready in advance so that you are able to pay and collect electronic euro payments after that date.

IPR SME Helpdesks: Free Business tools to manage your Intellectual Property Rights in Asia (China IPR SME Helpdesk and ASEAN IPR SME Helpdesk)

The IPR SME Helpdesk project is funded by the European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry. IPR SME Helpdesk is a free service which provides practical, objective and factual information aimed to help European SMEs understand business tools for developing IPR value and managing risk.

The IPR Helpdesks provide a variety of tools for SMEs including: Training, Materials and Online Resources, Case Studies, E-Learning, Newsletters, Publications, Solution Centre, Helpdesk News, Helpdesk TV, Country Factsheets

 

SME Toolbox on Standardisation

The SME Toolbox offers free support to SMEs and shows how using standards can benefit your business, how to identify the right standards and shape the content of future standards. The SME Toolbox is divided into the following steps:

Two New Programmes launched by UCC School of Asian Studies as part of the Springboard* Initiative

The School of Asian Studiesat UCC is offering two programmes as part of the Springboard Initiative in Higher Education: 

1. Higher Diploma in Chinese Business, Language and Culture

This programme enable participants to develop a range of skills (such as Chinese language proficiency, culturally mediated negotiation styles) required to successfully market and negotiate in China across a range of business sectors.

2. Certificate in Business, Language and Culture in East Asia

The modules offered in this programme will be drawn from languages, business and cultures and will equip participants to understand, apply and respond to issues which arise from Ireland's growing engagement with East Asia.

Both courses will begin in early September 2013 and the deadline is August 30th 2013.

EU public consultation on “The new EU Occupational Safety and Health Policy framework"

The purpose of this consultation is to gather insights and contributions from all interested parties on the possible directions of future EU policy in the Occupational Safety and Health area by identifying current and future challenges, as well as solutions to address these challenges. Taking into account the results of the evaluation of the European Strategy on Safety and Health at Work 2007-2012, it offers an opportunity to influence the European decision-making process.
