Dear Chamber Member,

The energy across the country this week has been palpable with large numbers returning to work, opening business doors and welcoming customers back. It is a most welcome and positive milestone, and a much needed gain for the sacrifices made by all in the past year.

Statistics have defined our freedoms in this past year. Now, as the vaccination programme continues to be rolled-out, we look forward to transitioning our focus on the positive indicators of recovery. In the past 7 days over 12,000 people closed their PUP as a result of returning to work, approximately 10% of those being in Cork. While there is still a road to travel, and further clarity is required on the phasing out of business supports, it is encouraging to see people return to employment.

This week we have the pleasure of sharing the three exceptional finalists in the LARGE category of our Cork Company of the Year Awards 2021, with thanks to our sponsors Vodafone Ireland and media partner the Irish Examiner. The Cork Company of the Year Awards 2021 will take place on May 26th and we will announce the finalists in the International category next Wednesday.

The results of a recent Enterprise Europe Network survey of SMEs in Ireland have provided key insights into how businesses are managing to navigate the export process following the UK’s exit from the EU, and it is clear that a lack of clarity is still an issue. 67% have experienced increased costs and 70% have seen delays in the delivery of products due to additional customs procedure and administration. These and more results can be read <HERE>.

Our International and Exports team are on hand to help you navigate the changes in exports procedures and welcome you to get in touch with your queries.

I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event and welcome you to contact me directly on 087-9471858 or by e-mail HERE to discuss any issues affecting your business. We are here to represent you.

Warm regards,

Conor Healy

CEO
