Canada calling!

Doing business with Canada? We’d like to hear from you!

EU-Canada Deal - seeking input on benefits for Irish business

The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is a newly negotiated EU-Canada free trade agreement. Once ratified, it will offer EU firms more and better business opportunities in Canada and support jobs in Europe. CETA will tackle a whole range of issues to make business with Canada easier. It will remove customs duties, end limitations in access to public contracts, open-up the services market, offer predictable conditions for investors and, last but not least, help prevent illegal copying of EU innovations and traditional products.

The European Commission Representation in Ireland is seeking to promote the new trade deal to Irish businesses. With this in mind, they are looking for examples of Irish businesses who are likely to benefit from the deal.

Therefore we are asking for your input if you are currently doing business with Canada or are looking at doing business there in the future. Contact Eimear for further information.

Canada Green Building Council Conference, Toronto, June 4-9

The Canada Green Building Council Conference will take place June 4-9 in Toronto. Apart from the conference, the delegate programme will include visits to LEED buildings in and around Toronto and there will also be the opportunity to visit manufacturing sites and facilities.

The International Delegate Programme will comprise of one full day visiting LEED buildings in and around the city of Toronto.  This does not just involve a board-room meet and greet but a physical walk around and talk with the architects/engineers involved with each project:

  • Waterfront Toronto is the public advocate and steward of waterfront revitalization, mandated to deliver sustainable, mixed use communities integrated with public transit, parks and open spaces. Created in 2001 by the three orders of government, Waterfront Toronto was given $1.5 billion of seed capital to transform 800 hectares of underutilised brownfield lands, making it one of the largest waterfront revitalisation projects in the world.
  • MaRS Innovation Centre (Phase 2) is a state-of-the-art office, co-working and research laboratory space that is LEED Canada-CS Gold certified. This iconic, 21-story building is located downtown next to the Toronto Eaton Centre Shopping Mall. Its anchors the University Health Network campus and adjacent to the provincial government buildings. MaRS is designed to be a central point for the convergence of ideas and innovation between science, business and government.
  • Bridgepoint Hospital is considered to be the first purpose-built hospital designed specifically to provide care for patients needing rehabilitation, and those living with complex health conditions. An internationally recognised healthcare and research centre, it is seen as one of the most interesting projects designed to support healing, and inspire health and innovation. The site also includes the 150 year old Don Jail and the surrounding park lands. The hospital and restored heritage site have won numerous awards for construction and adaptive reuse.
  • George Brown College (Waterfront Campus) Certified LEED NC Gold, this exemplary facility dedicated to teaching health sciences and has a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. “Living lab” that provides and evaluates innovative service models and products that emphasize health and wellness. Designed in compliance with the Waterfront Toronto initiatives and inclusive of mixed-use sustainable design excellence.

The second day in the programme includes company visits and walk-through the following factories and facilities:

  • Armstrong Fluid Technology is an innovator in the design, engineering and manufacturing of intelligent fluid flow equipment. With expertise in fluid dynamics, heat transfer, variable speed, and demand-based control, Armstrong Fluid Technology leads the fluid systems industry, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire safety.
  • Amvic Building Systems is an industry leading manufacturer of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) and Rigid Foam Insulation (EPS) products that consistently exemplify exceptional quality, superior strength and ease of installation.
  • Ubiquilux is the “Smart Lighting” company launching the world’s first and only gesture controlled, active energy saving dimmer switch for commercial and residential buildings.
  • Greyter Water Systems offers out-of-the-box water reuse management solutions which reduce the water and wastewater demands of commercial and residential buildings.
