Cork City strives forward with Purple Ambitions

Application submitted to achieve the prestigious Purple Flag Award for Cork City centre

Cork City Centre Forum is pleased to announce the submission of the Cork City Purple Flag Award application. The application coordinated by Cork Chamber has brought together a multitude of stakeholders working within and for the city, was submitted on the 10th July, and has garnered the successful collaboration and commitment of all those involved.

The awarding of the Purple Flag symbolises a location that offers a well-managed, diverse, entertaining and enjoyable evening and night out.  The application which involved a recent Purple Flag Award self-assessment of Cork City centre area which focused on reviewing the evening and night time offering of the city under the five themes of the award scheme which are Wellbeing, Movement, Appeal, Place and Policy, was contributory in emphasising the positives and areas in need of attention for those visiting and enjoying the city centre area.  The final Purple Flag Award assessment, which will be undertaken by an external Purple Flag assessor and will take place on Saturday 15th August, will inform the concluding section of the overall application and in doing so will be key to the final award decision.

The announcement of the final awarding decision is expected in November 2015.

Policy
Local Economic and Community Plan

Cork City and Cork County Councils have begun developing their respective Local Economic and Community Plans.  Socio-Economic Statements have been prepared by each authority and set out the draft high level goals and themes which will inform the subsequent development of the plans.  Cork Chamber has made a submission to both the County and the City Councils in response to this and has identified a number of key areas that the Chamber feel are critical and need to be included within the Cork County and Cork City LECPs.

It is the opinion of Cork Chamber that the addressing of these areas will enable the sustained growth of the region in itself, and the sustained growth of the region in the larger national context, from a business and wider community perspective.

To receive a copy of the Chamber submissions please contact Michelle or (021 4530132)
