Dear Chamber Member,

I hope you, your families, friends and colleagues are all well.

It has been an active and busy week four our country - progressing into Phase 3 of reopening last Monday, and the approval of the Programme for Government over last weekend.

We welcome the election of Micheál Martin as Taoiseach. It is a historic moment for Cork, and we look forward to working closely with the newly formed Government.

There are major challenges ahead with issues relating to Brexit and a global pandemic creating uncertainty for the business community. In parallel the demand for a new, environmentally conscious, and inclusive Ireland has never been stronger, and we remain committed to building economic resilience for Cork.

A strong leader and dynamic cabinet will be essential to ensure that Ireland not only survives the next few years but sets the bar on economic, environmental and social resilience. Deep change must be made and political strength will be required to deliver on the Programme for Government.

As ever, there is no shortage of vision or ambition in Cork, but now delivery on the Programme for Government is what matters. Real progress must be made and Cork Chamber looks forward to working with An Taoiseach over the coming years.

Minister Simon Coveney must be highly commended for his contribution as Tánaiste, for continuing his role in Foreign Affairs and for taking on new responsibilities in Defence. His steady hand in international relations and negotiation will be crucial.

Minister Michael McGrath must be congratulated for his new role in Public Expenditure. As a constant champion of businesses large and small with a comprehensive understanding of the economy there is every reason for confidence in the future of the Irish economy

I would like to wish those of you returning to business every success. I welcome your thoughts on what challenges are facing your business so that we can build economic resilience for Cork, email me <HERE> or 087 9471858 or make contact with any of the team at Cork Chamber.

Take Care,

Conor
