An Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD Addresses Cork Chamber Members

At Thursday morning’s Cork Chamber Business Breakfast in partnership with Ronan Daly Jermyn and media partner the Irish Examiner, An Taoiseach addressed the most significant issues that define the environment in which business operates.

Chamber President Paula Cogan spoke of An Taoiseach’s vision for Cork:

“In particular, by setting out his vision for the future of Cork and Ireland, An Taoiseach strongly emphasised his belief in providing a better environment for young people to grow up in, to climate and biodiversity, to education and to quality of life. These are characteristics that we believe will be increasingly important in defining the competitiveness of Cork in the years to come. As ever, the focus must remain on the delivery of a positive and visible legacy over the lifetime of this Government.”

“We look forward to working with Government with the same intensity that we have had since the outbreak of the pandemic to ensure that supports are effective, and that a positive and sustainable competitive advantage is found for Cork in the midst of this pandemic.”

Speaking on the impact of the pandemic on a range of issues such as aviation, the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy, Brexit, sustainability and housing An Taoiseach engaged in a thorough discussion with Cork Chamber CEO Conor Healy.

Speaking following the event, Conor Healy Chamber CEO said,

“It was very positive to hear An Taoiseach discuss the ambitious capital programmes that will lead to the completion of the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy, his commitment to continuing to address the viability and delivery of housing, to enhanced test, track and tracing, to providing better certainty to aviation.”

“Following a challenging week in relation to aviation, level 5 restrictions and recent flooding An Taoiseach showed his sensitivity to these issues and commitment to see progress on all fronts.”
