Directly Elected Mayor in Cork
 

On May 24th, the electorate in Cork City Council, Limerick City & County Council and Waterford City & County Council will be asked to vote yes or no on the proposal for a directly elected mayor with executive functions.

 

Under Government’s proposals, a directly elected mayor would:

  • Hold a mayoral term of five years
  • Be the face of the city domestically and internationally
  • Draft the local authority’s annual budget and draw up 3-year capital budgets for the local authority
  • Present a five year programme of government / vision within three months of being elected

Ireland’s Cities – Powerhouses of Regional Growth
 

The Minster for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy was joined by National Transport Authority CEO Anne Graham and Land Development Agency chairman John Moran at the city regions conference ‘Ireland’s Cities – Powerhouses of Regional Growth’.

 

City Regions Ireland brings together Ireland's 5 cities of Cork, Dublin, Galway, Limerick and Waterford to explore how they can fulfil their goals of economic development set out in the National Planning Framework and Project Ireland 2040.

Last month, Cork Chamber participated in a series of events and activities in the US, from San Francisco and Florida, to New York, New Jersey, Washington, Miami and Chicago.

 

The activities included representation in a combination of twinned city meetings with the Lord Mayor and Cork City Council executives, as well as regional promotion and tourism promotion activities on the East Coast, in partnership with Cork County Council and Visit Cork.
