On May 24^th, the electorate in Cork City Council, Limerick City & County Council and Waterford City & County Council will be asked to vote yes or no on the proposal for a directly elected mayor with executive functions.

Under Government’s proposals, a directly elected mayor would:

• Hold a mayoral term of five years
• Be the face of the city domestically and internationally
• Draft the local authority’s annual budget and draw up 3-year capital budgets for the local authority
• Present a five year programme of government / vision within three months of being elected
