Investment and Jobs Boost for Cork

Cork Chamber has welcomed GE Healthcare’s announcement of a $40 million investment in its manufacturing facility in Carrigtwohill, East Cork, which will see the site’s manufacturing capacity double and the creation of 140 new jobs in medical manufacturing.
Since its establishment in Cork, GE Healthcare has played a key role in the regional economy and is now set to employ more than 640 people.

Cork Economic Survey signals positive future

Cork Chamber’s third quarterly economic trends survey of 2015 reports increases in turnover, net profit, employee numbers, and strong business confidence as regards the future, reflecting a positive overall outlook on current market conditions and an encouraging future outlook.

The survey, which is representative of a broad spectrum of business sizes across a variety of industries, found that a significant 68% of businesses considered Budget 2016 positive for business, with 91% of businesses reporting confidence in their financial future.

Commenting on the survey results, Barrie O’Connell, Cork Chamber President stated: “This is a very reassuring sign and these survey results reflect the strengthening position of businesses as the Cork region looks to the future”.

Cork Chamber Urges Timely Progress

Cork Chamber has broadly welcomed the Government’s Capital Plan 2016 - 2021 investment announcements for Cork and Kerry. The launch, which took place in UCC’s Beaufort Building in Ringaskiddy, saw the announcement of a wide range of projects for roads, floodworks, healthcare, housing and policing.

This year there are extended opening hours at both the Black Ash and temporary weekend park and ride at County Hall with the last bus departing the city centre at 8:30pm, and at North Main Street car park until 9pm, to provide additional transport choices to visitors to the GLOW festival and in support of late night shopping in the city centre. 

In addition, we are delighted to announce that real time parking information is now available online through the City Council Open Data Repository via http://data.corkcity.ie/index.html. This service has been developed by Cork City Council in collaboration with the City Centre Forum and with the support of the Cork Smart Gateway and will allow visitors and shoppers to better plan their trip to enjoy all the city centre has to offer.

Carols by Candlelight Concert in aid of the Cork Association for Autism

A ‘Carols by Candlelight’ Concert will take place at St. Patrick’s Church on the Lower Glanmire Road, Cork City on Friday December 11th at 8pm. Funds raised will benefit the Cork Association for Autism who provide support services for adults with autism. Choirs performing on the night include Note Perfect, Cork Garda Male Voice Choir, The Cork Prison Officers Male Voice Choir, The Choir of St. Patrick’s and the Hairmonics. The programme for the evening will include well known favourites such as Oh Holy Night, Winter Song and Carol of the Bells. Ballincollig Credit Union are the proud sponsors of the event this year. Young tenor Kevin Walsh from Ballincollig who avails of the Cork Association for Autism services will perform as a special guest on the night.
