In the first Economic Trends survey of 2024, sponsored by PTSB, Cork Chamber asked members about their experience of the most recent business quarter and also for their views on the provision of childcare services in Cork and the impact it is having on their employees.
Top findings include:
63% of respondents either agree or strongly agree that childcare disproportionately affects women in the workforce
72% stated that policymakers need to take further measures to address the challenges associated with childcare provision

The Enterprise Europe Network at Cork Chamber are calling for applicants for their new EENergy grant initiative. EENergy is an EU-funded project that provides 900 x €10,000 as a grant across Europe to SMEs that want to implement measures to reduce their energy consumption and therefore their carbon footprint. With a total budget of €9 million, EENergy actively supports against the backdrop of the effects of climate change, the energy crisis and the EU Green Deal.
On 30 April 2024, some of the processes to import products into GB will be changing under the border Target Operating Model. DEFRA (Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) will host information sessions in April.
This information session is relevant for all EU to GB importers of:
products of animal origin (POAO) for human consumption
germinal products
composite products
animal by-products
This session will cover: border control posts; types of checks that take place at a border control post; and groupage and transits
Local Authorities are writing to all rate payers with information on how to register for the Increased Cost of Business (ICOB) grant. This includes a customer ID and PIN to access the ICOB portal. Eligible businesses will receive a once-off grant payment. Businesses should continue to pay their Commercial Rates bill as normal as this is not a Commercial Rates waiver.
