Ulster Bank, in conjunction with Small Business Can, are running a series of free events, throughout January and February, open to SMEs and entrepreneurs across the island of Ireland. This talk will examine uncertainty-driven unique challenges and opportunities in cyber-physical systems and smart environments, and their inter-winding relationships with pervasive computing and communications. The talk will be concluded with provocative thoughts, open issues and future directions of research. Speaker: Professor Sajal K. Das, Director, Center for Research in Wireless Mobility and Networking (CReWMaN), Department of Computer Science and Engineering, The University of Texas at Arlington, USA.

The purpose of this seminar is to provide a forum for work placement practitioners, and representatives from family businesses and community and voluntary groups, to examine the opportunities and challenges for Irish higher education institutions in engaging with these organisations through the student work placement process. The results of UCC's Beyond Big Business for Student Work Placement project will be examined, including an overview of the results of surveys issued to both placement practitioners and employer organisations in mid-2012.
