Cork City Centre Movement Strategy

The City Centre Movement Strategy Phase 1 and 2, which received a majority vote from a ballot taken by Cork City Councillors on Monday 26th September, will see a number of key actions implemented such as:

  • the plan will see private cars being prohibited from driving on St. Patrick Street between 3pm and 6.30pm (access will be permitted for buses, taxis, cyclists and emergency services),
  • the provision of new footpaths, cycle lanes and parking bays along Bachelors Quay between North Gate Bridge and Grattan Street,
  • an upgrade to the junction of Sheares Street/ Prospect Row to cater for the revised traffic management plan for the area (to include the installation of CCTV and an additional pedestrian crossing on Sheares Street),
  • the provision of a new inbound bus lane on Washington Street between Courthouse Street and Grand Parade,
  • the introduction of a bus priority gate at the junction of Sheares Street and Grand Parade
  • the upgrading of the the Grattan Street carpark facilities
  • the improvement of signage to direct visitors to North Main St car park — extending the parking time in North Main St car park beyond 6.30pm, and reviewing the car park operations to accept payment for long-term parking by city workers,
  • the provision of an additional pedestrian crossing on St. Patrick Street between Cork Street and Opera Lane

For more information on the most recent 2016 Cork Chamber submission to this process please see link. It is estimated that these actions will be implemented by a date within late 2017.
