Review and update

As of 1 January 2021, the UK is outside the EU Single Market and Customs Union.

While a Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and UK is in place, the seamless EU-UK trade that existed before 1 January 2021 has ended. Traders must now adapt to these new conditions. The resources available on this website will help you get started, and further government assistance and support is available to help businesses to meet the new requirements and to have the necessary procedures in place.

All companies, big and small, moving goods to, from, or through the UK, excluding Northern Ireland need to review and update their procedures. Further details are available in the government’s Brexit Readiness Action Plan, published in September 2020.

North South Trade

The Protocol on Ireland / Northern Ireland, which forms part of the Withdrawal Agreement agreed between the EU and the UK in 2019, means that no new procedures will apply to goods moving between Northern Ireland and Ireland (and the other Member States of the European Union).
