Cork Chamber Welcomes 210 new jobs for Cork

Cork Chamber President Gillian Keating has strongly welcomed this week’s succession of job announcements for the Cork Region. The positive announcements include 130 jobs for the newly re-opened Kingsley Hotel, 40 jobs with Alien Vault who are establishing their EMEA Sales and Technical Support Centre in Cork City and a further 40 jobs announced for Itron Inc at their facility in City Gate, Mahon.


In response to these announcements Ms. Keating stated that, “It is a significant and welcome boost for Cork and clearly demonstrates the region’s commitment to providing the environment within which companies can succeed”.

Train the Trainer (FETAC Level 6)  

Course Dates: 11th, 18th and 25th September

This 3 day course, one of our more popular, is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, deliver, assess and evaluate training programmes. It is suitable for people who are working in the area of training and development or who will soon be assuming a training position within their organisation. Participants on this course will gain practical experience and recognised certification (FETAC Level 6) as trainers.

At the end of this programme successful participants will be able to:

 

  • Understand different learning styles;
  • Explain critical elements of a trainers' role;
  • Understand the functions and processes of learning and training;
  • Evaluate different approaches to training;
  • Appreciate the importance of training on an individual, social and economic level;
  • Work effectively with a range of learner groups;
  • Explain the training needs analysis process and set appropriate training objectives;
  • Apply the principles of training design in preparing lesson plans;
  • Deliver training effectively in one-to-one and group situations, and select appropriate techniques for assessing trainee progress;
  • Identify different levels of evaluation and evaluate the effectiveness of training programmes;
  • Develop and implement appropriate assessment methods.

Certificate in Supervisory Management (FETAC Level 6)

Course Dates: 17th & 24th Sep, 1st and 22nd Oct

The main purpose of this programme is to provide candidates with the tools and techniques necessary to work in a supervisory management role in a wide variety of organisations by instructing them in key areas such as their roles and responsibilities, employment legislation, recruitment, performance management, data protection, operational planning and budgeting.

At the end of this programme, successful participants will be able to:

  • List the roles and responsibilities of a supervisor/line manager;
  • Analyse the process of staff recruitment;
  • Identify the key areas of workplace legislation and best practice in staff supervision;
  • List the main provisions of the Data Protection Act;
  • Develop operations manuals for work-related procedures, including systems for records management;
  • Prepare departmental budgets, taking into account a range of potential expenses such as labour and material costs, insurances and contingency;
  • Identify best practices in the ongoing training and development of their staff;
  • Manage performance and conduct effective performance appraisals.

This course is ideal for existing and newly appointed team leaders and supervisors, managers in business who have direct reports and who wish to learn best practice techniques for managing people through teamwork and people who wish to gain a professional, accredited qualification in the area of Supervisory Management.

Certificate in Business & Executive Coaching Leadership (FETAC Level 6)

Course Dates: 19th September, October 1st & 2nd, November 5th & 6th, December 4th

Member Rate: €720.00

Coaching is about unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their performance.

This programme is designed to provide those with responsibilities for developing workplace competencies with the skills needed to develop individual performance in others. It is designed to create an understanding of the organisation and workplace context within which performance and individual career development takes place and it will provide the skills, knowledge and tools required to carry out effective coaching in the workplace.

Specific features of this newly revised programme include

(a) an exploration of the Co-Active Coaching model (course book provided);

(b) enhanced practical coaching applications; and

(c) an individual MBTI Personality assessment designed to provide participants with significant understanding of the psychology of workplace relationships.

All participants are required to attend a pre-course information session on the 25th February which will be held in the Cork Chamber (2.00 p.m. - 4.00 p.m.) The trainer, Pat Lyons, will introduce you to the course and what you can expect from him and indeed, what is expected from you during the course.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will:

  • Understand the distinctive nature of coaching as an intervention designed to enhance workplace competencies and career advancement
  • Learn how to use a range of coaching models
  • Understand the organisational context of coaching
  • Have learned how to set goals for individual development
  • Be in a position to build powerful coaching relationships
  • Understand the non-critical, non-judgemental and confidential nature of the coaching relationship
  • Have acquired the skills of rapport building, active listening, systematic questioning, feedback and empathy
  • Have acquired an understanding of how personality and individual learning styles impact on the workplace learning environment
  • Have developed personal effectiveness as a coach
  • Be able to manage a coaching programme and evaluate the effectiveness of coaching as a development tool

 

This course is ideal for anyone who would like to learn the core skills of Business Coaching whilst also gaining a qualification which is on the National Qualification Framework in Ireland (FETAC Level 6). This course is suitable for managers and other individuals who are responsible for developing workplace competencies and who possess the interest and skills required to develop individual performance in others. Mission for Growth to China to help enterprises benefit from major growth regions in the world
 

Under the theme of Mission for Growth, the EU Commission will lead a trade mission to Chengdu, China from 21st to 23rd October 2014.  The mission seeks to offer a unique opportunity for SMEs to meet selected businesses in fast growing markets, The draft programme is available on the dedicated website.


European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani remarked that; "Major non-EU markets with strong growth rates represent significant opportunities for EU enterprises. SMEs are Europe's main economic strength, to help them to better exploit their potential in the global arena it is our clear priority to boost (SME) competitiveness and create employment." 

 


Why should SMEs join the mission?

The Mission will programme meetings with local entrepreneurs in Chengdu as well as high level political representatives and key industry leaders.   The mission will centre on IX EU-China Fair, in Chengdu which attracted in 2013 over 3,000 Chinese companies and 1572 European companies and generated 10,000 B2B meetings.  

 

The trade mission will focus on the following sectors:

  • Environmental protection
  • Renewable energy
  • Bio-pharmacy and bio-technology
  • Modern agriculture (incl. organic agriculture, food quality & security, R&D-agricultural science & technology)
