The Annual Cork City Sports International event has gone from strength to strength and this year alone will welcome 200 international athletes, coming into Cork to participate in the event. The sports event is one of the premier International Athletics Meet in Ireland. Cork City Sports organizers received a timely boost when it was confirmed that Olympic Gold winner Mark Lewis-Francis is set to take to his blocks for the much anticipated 100m clash at the CIT Athletic Stadium on Tuesday 8^th July next week. With 9.95 sec speedster Keymar Hyman from the Cayman Islands already in the lineup the 31 year old Birchfield Harriers, the sole still active survivor of Britain’s famous Olympic Relay triumph over the seemingly unbeatable USA quartet in 2004 ensures that there will be at least two sub 10 second men performing in Cork for the first time. With Ramon Gittens from Barbados, Rondell Sorrillo (Trinidad & Tobago) and Warren Fraser from Bahamas  also declared starters do not blink when the gun is fired!

As part of our ongoing lobbying and engagement campaigns Cork Chamber President, Gillian Keating and Chamber CEO Conor Healy met with the newly elected Lord Mayor of Cork City Cllr. Mary Shields and Cork County Mayor, Cllr. Alan Coleman earlier this week. At the meetings Cork Chamber outlined priority issues of concern for the business community in the Cork region for the coming twelve months.

As well as discussing key infrastructural projects the importance of marketing Cork as a region through Cork INC was discussed.  The Chamber re-enforced our position on the necessity of ensuring the continuation of the City and County Council’s Economic Development Fund to further support the creation and expansion of sustainable enterprises in the micro and SME sectors of the Cork economy.
