Shine a Light Night
18th October 2019

It’s that time of year again and Focus Ireland is calling on the Business Community in Cork to sleep-out and shine a light on homelessness.

We are calling on businesses and business leaders to make a real difference and help Focus Ireland raise vital funds to reach families who need their support more than ever before.

Will you sleep out for one night on Spike Island on Friday, 18th October? Or  why not organise a sleep out @ Work with your colleagues?

Shine A Light Night, proudly supported by Bord Gåis Energy. Email Dick White here

Enhancing Your Environment
Passage Railway Greenway Improvement Scheme
Submission made to Public Consultation

Under Project Ireland 2040, the population of the Cork metropolitan area is set to grow significantly by 125,000. It is essential that improvement works are undertaken immediately to address infrastructure capacity issues towards accommodating the already growing number of users of the Passage Railway Greenway.

Such amenities add to the liveability of the City and are assets in themselves, an intrinsic part of the character, environment and culture of the City that should be maintained, enhanced, appropriately improved and extended to connect with employment, residential and amenity locations as appropriate.

Representing You
Dunkettle Delay Criticised by Cork Chamber

The decision by Government to retender the Dunkettle Interchange will result in significant delays to the project, which is completely unacceptable.

The result of the decision to retender the project is that economic growth in Ireland’s second city region, a key element of the Ireland 2040 plan, will be held back for another two years at minimum.

The inability to complete key national infrastructure projects such as Dunkettle Interchange on time is an immense concern to our members. Serious questions need to be asked around the estimating process for the National Development Plan leading to unrealistic expectations around costs and the degree of appetite to deliver on projects which have been committed by the State.

Source EU-based Notified Bodies

Given the reliance by Irish manufacturers on the services of UK-based Notified Bodies, Government has renewed its call on businesses that use UK Notified Bodies to source an EU-based Notified Body legally designated to carry conformity assessments instead.

In a no deal Brexit scenario, companies in Ireland will no longer be able to rely on UK- based Notified Bodies to test, certify and inspect their products/services.

Manufacturers currently relying on a UK Notified Body for conformity assessment of products must arrange either for a transfer of their files and the corresponding certificates from the UK body to an EU27 Notified Body or apply for a new certificate with an EU27 Notified Body. Importers, distributors and authorised representatives should ensure that they hold certificates under the responsibility of an EU27 Notified Body. Likewise, exporters currently relying on UK based Notified Bodies for compliance certification will need to make similar alternative arrangements.

To avoid disruption and delays, you will need to take the necessary steps to ensure you are compliant with EU rules:

  • You need to check whether your current certifications, licences or authorisations will be valid post-Brexit. If you are a member of a professional body, they may be able to advise you further.
  • In the event of no deal, UK Notified Bodies will lose their status as EU Notified Bodies from the withdrawal date. So, if you rely on UK Notified Bodies for conformity assessment and/or CE Marking, you will need to arrange to either transfer existing certificates, licences or authorisations to an EU27 Notified Body or to obtain new ones altogether. You can check the EU Commission NANDO website for a list of designated EU Notified Bodies.
  • The National Standards Authority of Ireland has prepared useful factsheets that you can consult for further information.
