Today, Cork Chamber, the voice of business in Cork launched the 2024 local and European Elections Manifesto. In it we outline the key priorities for Cork's future development. Join us in shaping the path forward, and ensuring that elected representatives are as ambitious for Cork as our business community is. #UseYourVote Conor Healy, CEO of Cork Chamber, said "In 2024, running for election requires candidates that are ambitious for the region. We need representatives that have a very clear understanding of the pressing policy issues that are impacting Cork, Ireland South and Ireland. Representatives with a true commitment to improving local communities, the economy and the environment will deliver the best outcomes. We want our Local and European candidates to be as ambitious for Cork as we are and are calling for them to step up and match the ambition, drive and determination of our member businesses”. Today's announcement by IBM of their plans to create 800 jobs in Ireland across their sites in #Cork, Dublin and Waterford is a vote of confidence for Ireland's competitiveness on the international stage. Ireland as gateway to Europe has a unique position. It also acts as a reminder of the importance of continued investment in the factors that create an attractive location for business and further investment. IBM noted that the talent pool was one of the drivers of their decision to invest in Ireland. Government must continue to invest in our talent pool through our education channels and also to improve the supports (such as childcare) necessary to ensuring that those who wish to work can. Housing, and faster pace of delivery is a key ensuring Ireland is an attractive location for investment - along with smart sustainable infrastructure, along with welcoming, thriving urban spaces. #jobs #businessgroth #techjobs #FDI https://lnkd.in/ekpwk6H6

"Inaction is not an option. We must make progress on both mitigation and adaptation as quickly as possible" - laura burke, Director General, EPA. It was enlightening to attend the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ireland Annual Climate Conference yesterday on Ireland Living in a Changed Climate at Dublin Castle. There were many insights gained from policy, scientific, and practical perspectives regarding the need to adapt to a changing climate and the associated extreme weather events to protect people, communities, infrastructure, the economy and the environment. Some key themes that arose throughout the day to adapt quickly and effectively is the need to develop partnerships and integrated approaches to adaptation, closing the information gap, and strong communications. While there is still uncertainty and many unknowns, yesterday's conference made it clear that progress is possible. #EPAClimate2024
