Brexit Speech from Prime Minister Theresa May

Yesterday UK Prime Minister Theresa May made a speech outlining her vision for the UK leaving the EU. Below are some highlights from her speech of relevance to members. - Prime Minister May highlighted her commitment to retaining the Common Travel Area between UK and Ireland.
- She also noted that it is the intention of the UK to leave both the Single Market and the Customs Union, but would be hoping to negotiate similar customs and trade agreements with the EU
- She made the commitment that all EU laws will automatically be converted into British law once Brexit takes effect
- Commitments were made to guarantee the status of EU citizens currently in the UK, but no details on the specifics of this was yet provided
- Central to her speech was that the UK would be seeking a transition period where they could phase in certain parts of the new deal with the EU
- Last of all, she said that final approval for a new deal would be with both the House of Commons and House of Lords
