Celebrating Excellence
Joe Gantly Prize in Engineering

Congratulations to this year’s recipients of the Joe Gantly Prize in Engineering, awarded annually to the top performers in the Work Placement module across the ME (Hons) programmes at University College Cork. This year’s winners are:

  • John Scanlan, ME Civil & Structural Engineering – who completed his placement with PJ Hegarty & Sons on the Apple Campus Extension in Cork City
  • Kate Donovan, ME Process & Chemical Engineering – who undertook her placement at Eli Lilly and Company

Runners-up were Mark Maguire (ME Electronic & Electrical Engineering) and Daniel O’Reilly (ME Energy Engineering).

The prize commemorates the late Joe Gantly, a Civil Engineering graduate of Trinity College Dublin and an influential figure in Cork’s industry and education landscape. His distinguished career included senior roles at Apple, President of Cork Chamber, Chairman of the Cork Airport Authority, and Governor of UCC. To honour his legacy and support future talent, Cork Chamber proudly fund the Joe Gantly Prize in Engineering recognising outstanding students and strengthening the link between education and industry in the region.
