Cork's Flood Defence - Have Your Say: Public Information Sessions

  • Information on the flood relief scheme will remain on display in Cork City Hall Until Tuesday 5th August.

Venue: Cork City Council Offices, Anglesea Street

Flooding has had a major and devastating impact on the businesses of Cork City since 2009. Cork Chamber has dedicated significant resources to drive the implementation of an appropriate flood defence scheme and will continue to work on your behalf to achieve this.

Cork Chamber has:

  • Actively engaged public representatives at Ministerial, Oireachtas and Council levels
  • Held ongoing dialogue with the OPW to give feedback on the emerging preferred solution
  • Made submissions to the OPW on our members behalf to secure a proper public consultation period
Why it is important to have your say on Cork's Flood Relief Scheme:
  • It gives YOU the opportunity to engage with  the process
  • It will allow YOU to be adequately prepared for the potential impacts from  works
  • YOU will have the chance to provide your feedback directly to the OPW

Have your say on the Cork City Centre Strategy

In 2013 Cork City Council commissioned Colliers International to prepare a strategy for the renewal and regeneration of Cork City Centre. The report entitled Cork City Centre Strategy has been completed and was recently presented to and discussed by the Elected Members of Cork City Council. The Strategy proposes actions under three categories – Improvement / Development, Marketing; and Management.

The City Centre Strategy is now available for viewing at here. Cork Chamber will be making a submission as part of this process and I would like to invite you to review the document and its recommendations and to send your views on the report and how it should be implemented to Dr. Siobhan Bradley here  by the 8th August.

e-Day: Important Notice for Chambers and Businesses

e-Day, set for September 19th 2014, is the date from which Government Departments and offices, local authorities and State agencies will no longer issue or accept cheques in their dealings with businesses. e-Day was launched in September last year, to give businesses and public sector bodies 12 months to prepare for the smooth transition to electronic payments.

This key recommendation of the National Payments Plan for Ireland is being implemented as part of an effort to reduce cheque usage generally in an effort to reduce cost and improve cash-flow for Irish businesses. With cheque volumes dropping steadily, businesses, particularly small businesses, are being encouraged to make and receive their payments electronically.
