Continuous Fall in Unemployment

New figures from the CSO show a continuous fall in unemployment to 9.1% in the third quarter of this year. By end October, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 8.9% (down from the previously reported 9.3%) marking the lowest unemployment rate since December 2008.

 
Compared to 2014, 56,000 more people were in employment in the period July-September this year. For further information click here.

The Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) at Cork Chamber, in conjunction with the Irish Green Building Council (IGBC) and Energy Cork, are delighted to invite you to a one-day course on Certification Tools for Green Buildings, also known as green construction or sustainable building.

 


Background to this training:

The European Commission is placing increased importance on the environmental performance of buildings, with the scope of improving building sustainability and enhancing business opportunities within the sustainable buildings industry. A resource-efficient Europe is one of the EU’s key priorities under Europe 2020. For this reason, the EEN has partnered with the IGBC and Energy Cork to deliver this training programme.


Course aim: 
The course aims to give attendees information on Certification Tools for Green Buildings and understand what it involves.




Following this course, participants will:

  • Know what certification involves
  • Be able to choose the appropriate certification for their project
  • Know how building certification can impact your business, and the use of certifications in maintaining a competitive property portfolio
  • Know where to find the information to ensure that systems and services comply with certification requirements

One of the staple events in the Chamber calendar, the Cork Chamber Christmas Lunch will this year take place in the Vienna Woods Hotel on Friday 11th December, featuring guest speaker Mr John Creedon.


There will be some fantastic prizes to be won on the day and we will donate all proceeds to some randomly selected Chamber member charities, so your participation in the charity draw will go a long way to help these worthy causes.

Donal has over 25 years experience working in a number of large multi nationals including, Apple & Flextronics, beginning his career in Engineering.  Tyco is a company with over 65,000 employees operating in over 50 countries.

 


In January 2014, Tyco announced the expansion of its Cork operation with plans to expand workforce to between 500-700 over the coming years. Cork is the global headquarters for Tyco and is currently building a state of the art office block in One Albert Quay in the city centre.

Cork Company of the Year Awards 2016
 

The judging process for the Cork Company of the Year has begun in earnest over the past number of weeks, due to the unprecedented level of entrants this year the judging panel would like to publicly acknowledge all those that have supported the program through applications or nominations. The awards have gone from strength to strength each year, celebrating the best of Cork business across 4 categories and this year’s entrants are all shining examples of the quality of companies our region hosts. Judging continues over the coming weeks taking companies through a number of phases, the finalists and winners will be announced in the New Year.

B2B Meetings at Overseas Trade-fairs
 

Many of the world’s leading trade-fairs feature Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) brokerage events. These multi-sector brokerage (or B2B) events are organised by EEN branches (such as Cork Chamber) and these events offer companies the opportunity to meet potential business partners in person.

UCC seeks to recruit 40 people to share their views on how they would like Ireland and Europe to develop over the next 20-30 years.

In December 2015 and January 2016 over a 1,000 people around Europe will meet to articulate their vision for the future of their country and Europe. The consultation in Ireland will be held on the UCC main campus from 9.00am to 4.30pm on Friday 4th December. Refreshments and lunch will be served during the day and a gift voucher given to those involved.
