Economic Trends - Q1 2022
 

In the first Economic Trends survey of 2022 sponsored by Permanent TSB, Cork Chamber asked members about their experience in the most recent business quarter, Q1 2022 as well as the business outlook for Q2 2022. This Economic Trends captures a snapshot of business experiences and the overall operating landscape, in a period which saw the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the outbreak of war. In addition, Q1 2022 has seen a resurgence and second wave of the Omicron variant of Covid 19 and a subsequent impact on business and society. This survey also gathered information on the current experiences of Cork Chamber member organisations dealing with the rise in energy costs.

Cork Chamber are making a submission, on behalf of our members, on the Proposed Material Amendments to the Draft Cork City Development Plan 2022-2028. The consultation period will run until the 28th of April 2022. These consultations are an important part of shaping the future of our city and we encourage our members to engage in the process.

Rising Cost of Energy
Chambers Ireland survey for member companies
 

Chambers Ireland in collaboration with Chambers across the country have launched a survey to assess how businesses are being affected by the increased costs of energy.

 

Survey responses from companies will feed into a Department of Enterprise, Energy Supply Emergency Group and will contribute to ensuring policy supports are applied to businesses where they are most needed.

In our recent Chamberlink magazine, Paula Cogan, President of Cork Chamber delves into issues around visas, quality of life, anti-racism and ownership and how they relate to skills attraction. At the outset of 2022, a number of member businesses reported serious issues with staff shortages and the recruitment of skilled labour across SMEs, large indigenous businesses and multinational employers. Beyond typical recruitment or retention problems - a genuine skills shortage exists across numerous sectors and is most acutely felt in the hospitality, health, manufacturing, technology, and financial services sectors.

Promoting Cork in the US
 

After two long years of no in-person connectivity CEO Conor Healy represented Cork Chamber and its members in the USA over the St. Patrick’s Day period. The first part of the visit was part of a Cork City delegation led by Lord Mayor Cllr. Colm Kelleher in Cork’s sister city of San Francisco, followed by a productive few days in Washington DC.
