Supporting You
Importing Foods Requirements

With the exception of the specific arrangements for Northern Ireland, since 1 January 2021 Irish businesses that buy any food product from the UK and place it on the Irish market will need to adhere to the rules and requirements for importing food from outside the EU Single Market and for placing these products on the EU Single Market. It is important to know what this means for your business.

Dear Chamber Member,

The reopening of business and society has brought with it a welcome sense of optimism. There remain some challenges and we are keen to understand your views and experiences in our quarterly Economic Trends Survey here, so that we can best represent your business and industry.

We continue to promote Cork as a business destination and nurture international relationships that support the growth of our region. We are delighted to launch a new series called 'Global Conversations'. This first event, connecting Cork with Chicago, brings some renowned speakers together and will provide an opportunity for attendees to hear from Irish business leaders in cities and regions all over the world, including representatives from the DFA and Irish state agencies who make up 'Team Ireland' abroad. You are welcome to register free for this event <HERE> as we explore opportunities for closer collaboration between Ireland and the USA.

This week there have been significant jobs announcements for the Munster region, and Accenture have revealed plans to create 500 new jobs, with the majority of those based at a new Regional Hub in Cork. This investment will have positive impact across industries, particularly our life sciences which boasts world-class pharmaceutical, bio-pharma and medical device companies, along with an excellent talent pool, R&D and innovation. Cork has a strong track record in attracting investment and this announcement by Accenture is yet another vote of confidence in the creative, innovative and progressive city region we are proud to represent.

Team Chamber received some rewarding news this week, that our Sustainable Cork Programme has won Most Successful Policy Campaign Award at the 2021 Chamber Awards 2021. This recognition is testament to the work and dedication of the Cork Chamber team, the commitment of our board of directors and the engagement and foresight shown by our motivated and active members. The Sustainable Cork Programme set outs out a vision for a more resilient future for our region, brought into focus through the lens of the United Nations SDGs. Our next event in this programme is free to attend <HERE>.

The determination of our community to work together and use current challenges to energise and motivate change for the better is a powerful and inimitable trait. We at the Chamber are very passionate about our city region and are proud to champion Cork as a great place to live, work and invest. I welcome you to contact me directly on 087-9471858 or by e-mail HERE to discuss any issues affecting your business.
