‘The Future of Cork’

The Future of Cork: Cork Chamber Breakfast with An Tánaiste Simon Coveney TD

Cork Chamber were honoured to host An Tánaiste Simon Coveney TD for a special briefing titled The Future of Cork’ on Monday 19th February.

Coming just a couple of days after the announcement of Government’s new Project Ireland 2040 Strategy and €116bn National Development Plan, the Tánaiste’s briefing generated huge interest among members with almost 270 attending the sold-out event and more than 300 watching the live-stream on Twitter.

It was exciting to hear directly from An Tánaiste how Project Ireland 2040 envisions Cork’s future development with the population of Ireland’s second city projected to grow by 50% and commitments given to key long-awaited infrastructure projects including the M20 Cork-Limerick Motorway, Public Transport Commitments, Cork Events Centre, Docklands development and a Northern Ring Road. The Project Ireland 2040 Strategy has been greeted by Cork Chamber as ground breaking for Ireland, and particularly for Cork.

Commenting on the announcement, Bill O’Connell, Cork Chamber President said: “We have a historic vote of confidence in Cork’s future economic and social significance to Ireland. We have repeatedly emphasised that Cork has the ambition and capacity to develop into a real complementary centre of growth to Dublin and Government has bought into this vision, with the focus on Cork also aligned in the €116bn National Development Plan".
