Cork Chamber Submission to Central Bank Mortgage Regulations Review

As part of Cork Chamber’s ongoing policy focus on housing, we have made a submission to the Central Bank of Ireland on the mortgage regulations introduced in February 2015.

In our submission, we recommend that the deposit and income thresholds are adjusted to reflect the current housing market so that both first time buyers and those wishing to trade up can access a mortgage. We further recommend that track records of having paid rent is given consideration for determination of mortgage eligibility.

A total of 50 submissions were made to the Central Bank and it is expected that a decision on the review will be announced in November.

Our full submission and set of recommendations can be read here. Contact Sarah if you want to discuss our housing policy work in further detail.

Irish Water to take Responsibility for Administration of Cork City Business Water Accounts from September

Going forward, 3,200 Cork City business water customers will benefit from a single point of customer contact for all queries related to their water supply, wastewater treatment and account management as Irish Water assumes responsibility from Local Authorities for businesses’ water account administration.

Charges for businesses, credit terms, and the frequency of billing will remain unchanged while this transition takes place but bills will be issued from Irish Water directly, as they fall due, from September onwards.

Cork Chamber Team-Up on RATIO Interreg Europe Project

Cork Chamber has worked successfully with partners within the Cork region to bring this project and the objectives of this project to SMEs across the region. Organisations from around the region that engage with SMEs and with their local business communities on an ongoing basis were invited to participate in the Cork Chamber RATIO stakeholder group thereby ensuring a wide geographical spread of SMEs involved in the project and so ensuring an all-encompassing assessment of the innovation landscape within the Cork region.

SMEs from across the region were successfully surveyed to assess their innovation culture and capacity with a strong response being received. The stakeholder group meeting, which saw ten attendees representing the various regional and national organisations, took place on Tuesday 30th August and which led to good discussion of the topic of innovation and innovation potential for SMEs within the region.  All who attended were enthused to see the involvement of the region in this project. For more information see website.

The EU Interreg Europe RATIO project aims to identify the innovation potential of rural based SMEs within the Cork region, identifying the current challenges to innovation and throughout the course of the project identifying a policy change(s) to improve the accessibility and realisation of innovation potential for SMEs in the region.
